You say that as though its a bad thing :)

all jokes aside, I think it is a bad thing.

In other news, french/argentine starlet Gonzalo Higuain who was rumored to sign with a french club has gone and agreed to a six and a half year spell at Real. The deal cost (this serves perhaps as a point of emphasis concerning the young v. old debate above) Real a total of 13 million euros, a high price but probably the lowest River would have gone.

L'attaquant argentin de River Plate, Gonzalo Higuain, s'est engagé jeudi jusqu'en 2013 avec le Real Madrid, a annoncé le club espagnol dans un communiqué.

The leaders of PSG seem to be interested in an Italian striker : Andrea Caracciolo, age 25, who plays in Palermo, according to "Le Parisien".

Some players tired by the current context and the conflicts with Guy Lacombe are tempted by a departure of the club.

Fabrice Pancrate received several offers of English clubs and could be transferred for 2 million euros.

Bernard Mendy is interested in England, he has good recollections of his passage in Bolton, Middlesbrough is interested but the player costs 3 million euros.

Jérome Rothen: the left middlefield absolutely wants to leave this winter for Spain where Valencia CF and the FC Sévilla would be interested. But the player would cost 5 million euros.

Bonaventure Kalou and Mario Yepes will not leave the club this winter.

PSG, who are struggling big time in Ligue 1, has become the latest club to show interest in Chelsea midfielder Lassana Diarra.
Arsenal and Fulham have been earlier linked up with a January transfer deal for the French player who has so far made four appearances for the Blues this season.
However, the Blues youngster is not exactly thrilled with the Paris side’s intent. He told Le Parisien: “ I like PSG. As a youngster, I supported them because I was born in Paris.”
“But I can't say they are the club of my heart, because they didn't want to sign me,” maintained the 21-year-old Diarra, who harbours mixed feelings about PSG academy.
“I would have loved to play for their academy, but they never called me even though I was very close.”

Who is this guy? Any good?

Who is this guy? Any good?

having owned season tix for both Chelsea and PSG, can comment a bit on Diarra.
He's a bit on the slight side, but no Sean Wright-Phillips. He's the odd man out in a packed Chelsea midfield (Lampard, Essien, Ballack, Makelele, plus wingers like Robben, B. Kalou, and whenever Joe Cole returns). He is quality enough to start in third-round cup competitions - like the upcoming FA Cup vs. Macclesfield Town.
I wish Chelsea would loan him out as I hate to see any young talent wither due to a lack of opportunity- particularly if Rothen leaves, Diarra would get constant playing time, which he needs.

He's a very good prospect. He's seen as the "long term" replacement for Makalele.

He's seen as one of the biggest prospects in English football but with Cole, Ballack, Essien, Lampard, and Makalele owning the center of the park for Chelsea the 19 year old prodigy is finding it hard to get playing time.

If he's patient he will become an eventual starter at Chelsea, so as it has been said a loan move to PSG would be good. If I had the chance I would buy him, but that's just me.

Iv seen Diarra play for the Chelsea reserves a couple of times this season and he looks a class above the rest for them. He's only played four times for the First team this season and they were all substitute appearances, so he does need First team opportunities.
It was after the game against Huddesfield Town last year in the FA Cup that the English press started to compare him to Makelele, and the be honest he was immense in that game and fully deserved the comparison!
I personally would love to see him at PSG, especially since Chelsea have so many other options in that position, a permanent deal could well be a possibility which would be quite a coup for the Parisians.

He sounds like a French Raul. Raul got passed over by Atletico Madrid as a youngster, then RMCF took a look at him and the rest is history. I think Diarra is on a mission to stick it to PSG the rest of his life. Don't be surprised if he comes back to France and shines at another club.

At least PSG is getting talent from traditionally great clubs.

Good news. Let's see if a resurgent Gallardo can do some damage.

As a "hincha" of River Plate and someone who uses Gallardo's nickname as my username here in BS, I still think he still has some gas left in the tank. Hopefully the PSG supporters welcome him with open arms and he can show some of the playmaking skills he still has.

^i think the opinion among psg fans is still split on whether Gallardo was a good transfer or not. IMO, it was both sound financially and definately in a footballing sense. However, some have criticized his form with River the last season and some argentines I know are glad that he's leaving the club. I hope for the best, but rarely do things work out easily in the capital.

In other news, Alain Cayzac has announced the end of PSG's winter transfers, despite calls for further reinforcements
http://www.football365.fr/infos_clubs/psg/story_146515_-Le-PSG-a-de-l-ambition-.shtml

no reinforcement, no sales.
Take it in whatever way you will, but personally, I think it's a quite humorous that the title of the article is « Le PSG a de l’ambition » ;)

I love the irony, but isn't this so typical of the PSG board.
They must think the supporters money and passion are just automatic, no matter how much they water down/destroy this club.
Absolutely pathetic.

Signing one player isnt gonna help make the team significantly better and they still havent given Pauleta help in the form of another decent goal scorer. I think its quite disgusting that they make him shoulder all the load and dont give him a player to partner with of the quality that he deserves. I thought this new ownership had a lot of money to spend.

You are so right....PSG needs a complete overhaul from top to bottom. Starting with the board and their attitude.

I wouldn't do anything. I think the board is right with keeping this squad in shape.

The problem I've seen with PSG ever since I started watching them is that every other season a new investment comes in, a new coach and he brings in his players. Then as soon as he leaves with the team underperforming everybody says, "We need to rebuild the team." I say leave it until the end of next season and see if they can gel or not. They are in the final 32 of the Uefa Cup for a reason. Let's see if they can play together in the upcoming months.

PSG needs some stability, even if that means seeing them finish the season 11th or so...

yes and no.

I'm all for stability, and we have sufficient depth up front especially with Kalou gaining back his form (somewhat). However, there are parts of the squad where we are critically weak, and here I'm talking about our defense. This is the defense that imploded against Lyon, HTA, and other opponents, letting in silly goals and refusing to organize in order to stop attacks. Take the right-back position for example. Despite PC showing some quality, it seems as though our first choice is the Ballon de Plomb winner Bernard Mendy! Why wouldn't we want find a suitable replacement? Especially when one considers that our depth is mostly made up of youth players, and none who fill that particular position.

IMO we need reinforcements in these areas JUST to get to 11th in league. Otherwise, I don't see us finishing well at all.

PSG are now being linked with Croatian international Diego Srna.

Honestly in my opinion this would be a good move for PSG. He is a very good right midfielder.
