The first article is a revision of the second one. Looks like the media onslaught is succeeding in killing this deal.

Calloway first picked up on Palguta after the player sent a "highlight" videotape. Then he called Syracuse University men's soccer coach, Dean Foti, to see if he knew about Palguta. Foti praised Palguta and the Rhinos took him with the 21st pick.

Calloway said the MetroStars (MLS) showed an interest in Palguta, but the new Rhinos coach convinced him that Rochester and the USL First Division was a better fit financially and for playing time.

"I knew with Laurie I wouldn't get snubbed just because I was young," he said.

Is he serious? Does he realize los Metros are trotting out Mike Bradley, Mike Magee, Eddie Gaven, Jeff Ward, Jeff Parke, and that other defender they just got from the A League? Even with Youri and Agoos, in the lineup, they've got to have one of the youngest starting 11s in the league. That might be a legit complaint to make against some coaches in this league, but not the Metros.

RFK:

•Marked elevation changes on the soccer field, and for one game, uneven markings instead of a regulation-size rectangle.

Years ago, I had a teammate in the American Soccer League, Peter Carr. He was finishing his career in the United States but had played against Liverpool at Anfield for Carlisle United on a number of occasions.

He told me about the first time he went down the tunnel to the field and read a plaque that said: "Welcome to Anfield."

I'm guessing this is what the plaque actually said:

That will cease to be true if he can perform at that level and get himself a serious MLS offer.

The first article is a revision of the second one. Looks like the media onslaught is succeeding in killing this deal. The question is, are they killing any deal, or can Garza/Castro resurrect it in a more accpetable form (and still be acceptable to MLS)? We're mulling that issue right now in one of the SA forums.

Pretty interesting. let see how big Long island can get.

Players were signed to full-time contracts for $20,000-$40,000 that includes coaching youth teams, giving clinics, making personal appearances, all working solely for the Riders.

we know where the draftees will go to. how is the living in ny because of taxes?

"We have our own version of Manchester United right here on Long Island," Kilmeade said. "These guys are coaching the best players on Long Island and on Saturdays, the youth players come out to see them play. They know them intimately and they have actual heroes. We're in the early stages and now I know we're going to get there because a company like KeySpan believes in it."
