Yes Manchester United appears to be interterested in him but the Lyon president has said he is not for sale. I'm sick of the British media every other week saying he's going to Manchester United. He is only leaving if Man U. or any other teams offers an obscene amout of money and over pay for him. Lyon are trying to build a squad to win the Champions League and they dont need teams like Man Utd who have unlimited budgets and can buy who ever they want, taking their best players from them. This is just the British media trying to start stories and false rumors that aren't gonna happen. Alex Fergueson seems to admire him but that doesnt mean he is for sale. Tell Fergie he cant have everyone he wants. F ManUtd. !

Essien is a nice player but.... I a bit overhyped as of late.... Isn't Bapa Boupa Diop still available for Man U anyways?

My fear is that Essien will cry like a little baby that he wants to leave and go to ManUtd. Then Aulas will have to try to accomondate his wish if Essien crys like a little b***h about wanting to go.

I'm guessing he will fill the hole left by Butt and play alongside Keane, in the centre of midfield, probably maybe just ahead as a link to the attack.
Good player, I think he has been one of Lyon's best players and should thrive in a better division like the EPL (much like Heinze)

ganu you act like he's signed, sealed and delievered alreaded to ManU. I didnt know he was for sale. Just because ManU wants him doest mean they can have everything they want. When will these clubs who have these bottomless budgets learn that they they cant just go around and pick and take who ever the hell they want. Aulas has said Essien will remain at Lyon this season. Tell Fergie to go look elsewhere.

Oh and I dont appreciate a Manchester United fan coming into the FRANCE forum and starting a poll for the sole purpose if us French fans evaluating a French player for him so his NON FRENCH team can come and take him away. That doesnt fly with me and and Im sure it doesnt sit will with the other true French fans on this board either. Us TRUE French fans hate seeing out best players being raided by teams who have unlimited budgets like Chelsea, ManUtd and Arsenal. We hate those teams with a passion and we dont want their fans coming here and asking us for info on our players so they can steal them from our league.

Has he signed a new deal?
If not, then Lyon will have to sell him - makes sense to get some decent money for him and get some more players in with the cash - help the finances.
Sadly, clubs with bottomless pockets can pick whoever the hell they want - for that very reason - they have money to burn, and can offer stupid transfer fees and wages.
Just because Aulas opens his bouche, doesn't mean that it is the be all and end all of everything.
Lyon are small beans next to Man Utd.

Are you on period or something?
I thought he came in, asked a fairly reasonable question. He is well within his justification to come here and ask a question like that. He plays in France, Man Utd are linked, he wants information on the player. Where is the problem in that? I like to think that we can answer people's questions here - I for one don't want to chase anyone away; regardless if their team is looking to purchase a player or not.
If PSG were linked with a Portuguese player - and I went on the Portuguese forums and asked a reasonable question about the player, then I hope that I wouldn't be lambasted and accused for pinching one of their players...
Speedy, just ignore him - you are welcome here for whatever reason...

No dont ignore me because I know I speak for others in here as well. Why would anyone whos a fan of PSG, Marseille, Lyon or whatever care about what Manchester United does. Fans of those teams hate teams like Manchester United

I think we can all speak for ourselves.
But I'd like to think for the sake of being friendly, we can answers people's questions about French based players and teams.
It's called being welcoming....
As I said before - Essien plays for LYON. LYON is in FRANCE. MANCHESTER UNITED are linked with ESSIEN.....therefore someone wants info on the player in the FRANCE forum....
Comprends?
He wants some info, and has come to this forum to ask it. Where else does he go? Please tell me.
Now stop trying to ward off people, you don't have to be a French footie fan to appreciate this forum. If you don't like that, then I suggest I leave. People talking about players linked to teams in other nations are always welcome. We need more people, not less.

Its not a legitament link. Its all English tabloid press BS. Fergie sees a player he wants so they link that player with his team. No where do they mention that Essien is not for sale or that he is rumored to be going to that team. This is even after Aulas said there was a 94% chance Essien would remain. The English scumbag press still wont let up even after Aulas said that. They dont care all they care about are THEIR teams. Well I'm sticking up for OUR French teams. How about that ???

Man U doesn't have unlimited resources. They raided their 2005 transfer budget when they bought Rooney, so they need to sell before they can buy someone like Essien. He's valued at 25 million pounds, so good luck raising the cash. Selling Quinton Fortune, and Michael Silvestre isn't going to get you there.
If Man U wants him, then good for them...... Lyon beat Man U in their group and went further in the CL than they did. Lyon will just have to be more creative like they always have been. I remember when Lyon and PSG were battling to sign Essien originally and Lyon got him for 4 or 5 million Euros and everybody couldn't beleive how much they had paid. If there is one club in France I'm not worried about (in terms of managing transfers), it's Lyon.

If you lose Govou AND Essien then they are gonna be in rough shape. Plus if Le Guen leaves then Juninho might not want to stay because he was quoted as saying he'd stay if Le Guen stays. If this all happens you could have potential disaster on your hands. Aulas knows this all and will do his best to prevent it from happening. ManU and their fans dont care about any of this but I CARE because I am a Lyon and French fan.

Sportboy, again I like your spirit, but don't take this sh1t too serious. Go to the Man United transfer thread if you want a good laugh. They are mentioning everyone under the sun being linked to a move to Old Trafford this summer, Figo, Zidane, Casillas, Ronaldinho, etc... Just laugh it off.... Lyon will be just fine. I don't think Essien will leave and if he does, Lyon will find a more than adequate replacement with the piles of money they get from the transfer..... No worries.

Yeah Im not worried because I said it wasnt a valid link. Just because Fergie watched him and was interested doesnt mean he's going there I know that. Like I said its all English tabloid press BS. It seems that every other week they have Essien to Man U story. Never once mentioning that the player is indeed for sale and wants to leave. They give lame quotes from him admiring Man U, the manager and the Premiership. It's really weak. I wish ganu understood where I was coming from like you do. Thanks, man:-) I'd feel the same way about what I said if it was a good PSG player being linked with ManU. They took Heinz but PSG wasnt nearly as good as Lyon is now.

What an ignorant and stubborn twat....
I respect your opinon, but what you are suggesting is that this forum is elitist now? Only hardcore fans allowed, no trainers and jeans etc
So what, you expect people to wake up one morning and go - you know, I'll be a french footie fan - 'Darling bring my crossiant and the edition of Le Monde.'
These forums are for everyone, regardless if you are a fan of French football or not. The people who come in and ask casual questions are what makes the site what it is. It sometimes turns them into wanting to watch some french football and *hark* even support a team.
I'm not German, I don't speak German, and get brief glimpses of the Bundesliga now and again on Sky. Still doesn't stop me posting on the Germany boards and speaking to Hertha fans does it now....?
Seriously, head back into that myopic and fractured world of yours and I'll tell you when it's safe to come out...

I like French Football clubs ok and I hate teams like Manchester Utd. and their ilk. I hate their fans for supporting these teams because I feel that they are trendy gloryhounds. What is so hard about that to understand ??? A team I hate wants a good player from a team that I like. Dont I have a right to be upset then ???

Oh, but I do understand dumbwad. But that's not the issue.
If you are suggesting that I'm taking it as 100% certain then you are wrong.
I live in England, I can read tabloid crap with my own bare hands. Lol. I never believe anything written in them.
Fyi, I was trying to offer a little bit of information to our Man Utd friend. I.e - where he would fit in, etc IF indeed he did go. You understand the conditional phrasing of that right?
I'm sorry if you misread my 'will' as 'would'. But let's be honest since when does a slight grammatical and even phrasal tone suggest that I fail to understand tabloid rumours?
I'm sorry if my grammar is misleading, but I well aware of the fact he hasn't gone. Sadly I don't possess your unique disposition, to determine everything that is said as a clear opinon of the person in question.
