Lets be honest here. Both fans from either side of the pond would have witnessed and England team for about 4 years with the potential to the win both World Cup 2002 and Euro 2004. However with Sven in charge I believe this is the main reason for the failure of the team. Player power domiantes the team to much and his inability to drop the big players who are not in form such a sBeckham has lead him to become to 1 dimensional. Also he is pondering on how to incorporate Terry, Campbell and Ferdinand but i think he has not learned yet they in football you are allowed to change a formation. 3-5-2 is by far the most suitable formation to play. Finally i believe that if Sven diont win the World Cup (and with the squad he has he should have no [B]excuses) then i believe that Sam Aladyce should become the new manager. He will insatll confidence and assert his authority on a team that lacks real leadership from top down. Your replies are greatly appreciated.

he isn't so bright i would rather have lux as the manager...but dropping beckham is not the way to go.
Benching the captain diminishes moral which the team was lacking in euro 04.
also, i'm actually fond of becks so i dn't want him dropped

England having the potential to win 2002 was a bit of a stretch don't you think.

international football is not like club football - there are very few games in comparison, and as a result chopping and changing the squad and team to suit short-term league form isn't a particularly great idea. at club level the players train and play together all season, at international level just a couple of weeks a year. there are very few countries who don't assemble a squad and basically stick with it for a good few years, injuries aside.
pretty much anyone you install as the manager will be of the opinion that beckham is, for now, the best right sided midfielder we have, and would pick him there regardless of form until at least the 2006 world cup. similarly any manager would have kept beckham in the team consistently for the last few years as well.
anyway people's prime complaints about sven are the long ball style we have often played, and tactical inflexibility. so you suggest sam alladyce, a devout disciple of the 4-5-1 formation and long ball style of play?

Indeed - any team with Mills as an integral part isn't going too far.

That really is awful to see. I had forgotten those.
And I'm surprised to see you have a go at Trev.

I didn't know what Campbell's name was. Thought it was just Sol - turns out it's funkier than that.

well, there's no point in being club-biased - he was never really international quality.

obviously sven has made a mess of this team and should be held responsible for the huge decline in the quality of the english team
especially given the success england has had in both of those events over the past 100 years

Our record in the world cup before 1930 is quite good. We started to decline a bit after that.

How did I miss that?
If anyone wants proof of the influence the tabloid media has over this country that statement is a prime example.

pffffft i've haven't read a newspaper in about six months, let alone a tabloid.
bolton have come out of their shell in the second half of this season to be fair, but you have spent long periods of time playing 4-5-1 and lumping it up to davies. that is a fact.

Yup what other reason what you actually put Davies on the field for.

No, it's not a fact. The only time we've played long ball this season was during a period when we lost 6 games on the bounce. Sure we mix it up, we play a few on the ground, hit a few long and go back to the ground but we are in no way a modern equivelant of Wimbledon.
A few weeks ago Sky showed the pro-zone stats for long balls in the Premiership, Bolton were 4th. The teams above us included Liverpool and Chelsea, liverpool had played nearly twice the long balls we had.
We play 4-5-1 that changes to 4-3-3 when we attack, like a certain team who've just won the Premiership. You don't bypass a midfield containing Speed, Hierro, Okocha, Nolan and Diouf if you want to win.
Long ball my arse.
