Maybe this guy could have dug a little deeper into the failure of Miami and realized that there a lot of reasons for that franchise to fail that won't be the case in SA. For example, playing not in a soccer specific stadium, but a glorified high school football stadium with a bad location. It's not like everything was perfect and it just didn't work. It seems to me like there is a smear campaign going on in San Antonio and there is no one from the Pro-MLS side doing a good job to counter it.

I emailed the guy and basically stated the same thing. His response was actually quite cordial and he admitted that he was not even attempting to write a balanced piece. He's basically totally against the deal and used the Fusion as a way to try and make his point. It is a massive hatchet job, to be sure. I really would like to see the Express offer up some counter point to the now daily parade of opposition to the Alamodome deal.

There was a lot of anti-WIZ writing in KC when the league started, with much of the media openly scoffing at the idea of soccer in KC: "I will personally flush the WIZ," etc. But what's comning out of San Antonio seems worse: more steady in its negative tone, and more serious, too.

I don't think this town wants MLS; those with a voice to be heard really pine for an NFL team. I hope they get one. The NFL and San Antonio deserve each other -- take that as you will.

The NFL in San Antonio!? LOL

Yeah right!!!

The NFL does not need San Antonio and more importantly MLS does not need San Antonio either. So I say chuck them. Let the Alamo Dome sit idle and leave them to their obscurity.

I sent the guy an email more or less stating that it is fine to compare SA to South Florida if you also compare it to Columbus and Salt Lake (personally I think better comparisons). Admitted that this is mainly and editorial piece on his part, which means no need for fair and balanced, but I pointed out there are plenty of counter points on his assumptions.

Sending your comments to the writer is fine. However, as it is a column (and he's admitted it) he has a point of view he wants to push. That means your POV isn't important to him. And thus it won't get out to the rest of the paper's readers. Send a letter to the editor to provide counter points to his piece.
