Does not bother me, we accept that we can field players under the same circumstances, it in the rules. I'd rather see them play for Scotland, but as long as they are doing it for Celtic I'm happy.

When McGeady chose the RoI over Scotland I gave him the benefit of the doubt... his life, his choice..and because he's still only a boy, he's probably not able to appreciate how big that decision will prove to be in life.. I remember going to University at 17 and choosing the subjects I'd study for 4 years... I picked them at random.... but then I thought I knew it all...doh!
For those that love to think all Celtic fans brought up in Scotland with Irish heritage are 'oirish' then think again...we're not. We are Scottish with Irish heritage. There must have been loads of Celtic players of Irish heritage in the past who chose Scotland... so why are these guys choosing the RoI now?
I don't think for a minute that it's down to 'sectarian' reasons.. a hatred of Scotland... a belief that they are Irish... I think their heads are turned, they've chosen the sexy successful Irish, with big name players, a high world ranking and a good chance of WC and Euro qualification over sad Scotland... a has been outfit...
I'd rather they chose to make Scotland better....I don't condem them for making the choice, but I do think that they are being short sighted...I also think that they'll regret it... here's why.
1. Everything is cyclical. Scotland will improve during their career, probably at the time when the RoI will struggle.
2. They won't have genuine passion for the RoI
3. They won't be accepted 100% by the Irish when players born and bred in the RoI are now coming through.
As tempting as it is, let's not add this to the list marked 'Scotland's Secret Shame'.
Loads of players can't play for their country, so if another gives them the opportunity they jump at it, Jack Charlton had a squad of them, Scotland have had loads recently....
Also think of players who have choices... Patrick Viera had a choice, Senegal or France....mmmm, let me think... he chose 'racist' France...
Different strokes.

I fully defended McGeady's decision and I believe that he considers himself at least as Irish as he is Scottish, but with this latest I can see why you're all getting so pissed off - the new kid really does sound like he's doing it as a career choice, which is ugly.
Without wanting to cause agro, or get the "traitor" spiel (because in this case I might agree with you), can anyone tell me what position/sort of player he is? I don't know anything about him.

McGeady has the right to choose any national team for which to play for.
So leave the man alone to get on with his career, other countries have to
deal with this kind of thing why should Scotland be any different. Besides
do you want a player playing for Scotland when his heart is not in it?

It's a fair point.
But if players don't "want" to play for their own country, then they shouldn't be allowed to play for another. It makes a complete farce of international competition.

Again a fair point! For me personally I cannot understand why this boy does not want to play for us other than the fact we are pretty crap. So he is being ambitious. I don’t really agree with that at all. No doubt at some point we will be better than Ireland again. I hope it is when he is playing for them! Did McGeady actually want to play for Scotland?
