That's good news in my opinion. Now we will get a slightly smaller soccer-only stadium, with seats closer to the nets/touchlines for a better, more intimate and traditional soccer atmosphere. I think this could actually help us land the MLS franchise! The Argos have actually done what will turn out to be a favour to the CSA and Toronto in the long run.

Jaydog, you are wrong. MLS wants 20,000 seat Soccer-specific stadiums like the one Columbus Crew play in. This one fits the bill. MLS is only averaging 15,000 per game, so they dont want games in which 15000 fans are scattered in a cavernous 30,000 seat stadium. Without the endzones, this will be less of a multi purpose and more of an SSS. This will increase our chance of an MLS franchise landing in T.O.

The stadium will still have to be able to host the York U. football team.
If it was up to me, I'd take the $50 mil. that is still available ($35 from the guv, $15 from the school), and build a 20,000 seat stadium with no end-zones. Then, say we one day win the Women's World Cup, or some other big event, we could expand the stadium at the end-zones.
If the stadium does get built, maybe it will have natural grass.

That is exactly what the University was quoted as saying they are looking into. A 20,000 seat stadium at of course a smaller price tag. In the long run, it may be (in a funny sort of way) the best thing that could have happened for MLS. As far as natural grass, Im not sure that will work, dont forget, they will be playing University football on that turf too. Anyone see what a football team can do to a soft feald ? The stadium should be built in a fashion that will allow them to expand in the future if attendance builds to that level. I can hardly wait to see the FIFA tournament.

I think both will be lost if a desision is not made quickly. The MlS would
be a worse loss then the world championships, We could always host
that again once we get our act together, But getting team in North
America's premier soccer league might not happen for a while to come.

Well as an American, I'm very gratified that you think that MLS has already surpassed the MFL. And after only ten years.

I think the key here is a small stadium with the ability to expand as needed in the future. A 20 000 seat stadium is more than enough for MLS in the first 10 years or so. A 25 to 30 thousand seat stadium is not a dead issue yet. Im still think some invester will still come in. MLSE for instants is vary quiet right not. Does anyone else see it as odd that they are quiet right now, even though this impacts on them directly ? Sounds like quiet negotiations to me. :)

20000 seats is huge for a soccer stadium in this City. LOL
If the Maple Leaf Sports soccer team can ever fill 20000 seats they will build there own privately own stadium in downtown Toronto.
Good to see so much interest for soccer in Toronto :)

I'll be surprised if a stadium of some description isn't built but 20,000 permanent seats may be wishful thinking at this stage now the Argos are no longer on board. It could easily be siezed upon as an example of government waste in a federal election campaign.

Off topic, but I absolutely hate the name "Rogers Centre". I already miss the good old Skydome...
Why couldn't they call it at least, "Rogers Centre Skydome"? For me, getting rid of the Skydome name was just abandoning our history there in our glory days for both Jays and Argos...

Seeing that Rogers and Argos effectively knowingly killed the stadium project for us, I wonder what this does for both of thier public relations. I for one am pissed at both. Argos sold out after months of selling the stadium. Argos will not see any more of my money. I willl not even go if offered free tickets. Screw you Argos !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CSA is on its own now. This will be the only CSA owned outdoor stadium (correct me if I am wrong). Bad news is that Toronto will not get the finals but the good news it a CSA owned stadium. I wonder how long it will be , if it is even built, before the CSA needs to sell off the stadium? Living near T.O. I will try to support the soccer stadium regardless.

CSA owned stadium? There is no stadium.
"The Rogers Centre is "theoretically" an option now that it has a FieldTurf surface. Pipe said there has been contact already."
Rogers will try to bring this event to the Skydome and thats what they've wanted all along and it looks like they've succeeded. :(
