Dominique Rocheteau, what a great player he was.

He's playing for Creteil in Ligue 2.

Welcome to the forums anyway.

What a peice of work Diomede is. You go from World Champion to playing for Cretail. Ouch. I guess things could be worst, he could be playing for the MetroStars like Djorkaef. :)
Anyways, it was always inconceivable to me that him and Guivarch' were world champions. Two horrible Auxerre players that somehow made that team. Both went to England, and both were exposed. Cretail, classic.

I completely disagree with you, sl7vk. Diomede and Guivarch were very precious players for team France in 1998. The kind of men who, simply said, do the job. Hardwork, sweat and humility.

No big stars, no frontpage fuss for tabloïds, no million-dollars TV contracts, no romance with top-models, no obnoxious attitude, but, at the very end, the job is done. Players like this are priceless in any team, and France NT in 2002 was hopelessly short of that kind of men.

reminds me of that movie "Miracle" about the 1980 US mens hockey team. The coach picked alot of ordinary players who could play a specific role in the team but who werent necessarily the best players in the country.
Very smart if you ask me. Look at the results in the 1980 winter olympics.

No big stars, not million dollar contracts, no romance, but most importantly no goals!
Guivarch' blew 3 one v one ops vs Taferrel against Brazil in the Finals. Thank god it didn't matter, but it was the same story for him against Saudi Arabia, and South Africa. The guy is a bum.
As for Diomede, he featured much less in 98, thankfully. The guy can't get a cross off the ground. He's aweful.
The players that were essential and weren't pre-madona's were, Deschamps, Blanc, Lizerazu, Thuram, Desailly etc...
After the world cup Guivarch' went to Rangers and then Newcastle, and flamed out at both. Diomede went to Liverpool in a big money transfer and stunk it up there. Those two Auxurre players were aweful, that's all.

I guess we won't reach an agreement on this topic, but I keep believing that spirit is more important than stats.

But it's true I'm the romantic kind of soccer fan.

yeah, but wasnt it cool how Guivarch' almost scored with that bicycle kick 10 seconds into the final against Brazil? Imagine if that had gone in?

Imagine if any of his 34 opportunities had gone in. Would have been awesome.
