Voom 21, the operator of the exclusive content channels carried on the Voom DBS service has reached an agreeement with Echostar (Dish Network) to carry the Voom original HD channels. Initially only 10 will be carried (WorldSport HD not being one of the 10) but by 2006, all 21 will be picked up by Dish.

This is great news. So then order HD option from DISH, and you have HDNet and WorldSport HD. The good news about DISH is that you don't have to buy a DVR upfront, and you can buy the HD tier a-la-carte.

An Update. From what I read on Satellite Guys.US and AVS Forums that it'll actually be 14 and NOT 10 that will be launching on April 30, with WorldSport HD included.

Link? I haven't seen this anywhere. All official stories only say 10 channels everywhere.

One more thing of interest to point out. The Voom channels will be carried on the 61.5 satellite by Echostar (actually the exact same satellite they were broadcast by Voom). This means that you'll need an additional dish, separate from your standard Dish 500 system to receive the extra channels. Price is presently $5.00 per month.

Sorry guys no WorldSport yet. There was an email sent out to Dish Dealers that actually said 14 channels, that included WorldSport HD on May 1st. However this is not the case. Its just the initial 10 that was reported. So we'll just have to wait and see when DISH decides to add the rest of Voom's 21 HD channels.

La Liga games in HD will be shown on Rush-HD (one of the 10 channels picked up by Dish Network) starting Memorial Day weekend...

I assume this is temporary until WorldSportHD is picked up by Dish.

WorldSport HD will be resurrected on February 1. A new MPEG-4 compliant receiver from Dish networks will be necessary to get this channel from their "VOOM" tier.

Edit: I had mistakenly said DVR instead of receiver before.

Ok so you can record the channel with the MPEG-4 with the new equipment but if you just want to watch live TV can you use their regular HD receiver?? I know you need a dish upgrade to see Voom.

You need a MPEG-4 receiver. If you have an existing HD Dish receiver it is a MPEG-2. Dish will not take away any programming, but you cannot get new programming such as ESPN2-HD (most of the world cup games will be broadcast on ESPN2 HD) or World Sport. They are rolling out their new equipment in February. Links with information about the new MPEG-4 receivers can be found here.
