I was wondering if anybody knows of a plan to bring MLS back to south Florida. I went to the Fusion games and would love to go again. We have a stadium, I beleive we could get enough season ticket holders but does anyone know of possible ownership groups?

I would love to hear from anyone interested and maybe get a grass roots movements going to get soccer back in south Florida.

welcome to BS dooby10.
There are some great and long threads dedicated to MLS and South Florida here in the Expansion Forum and in the USL forum. I recommend searching those threads for greater detail.
However, I can tell you that the 2 biggest rumors were a tall tale that Real Madrid was interested in creating a pro team 2 years ago and the more realistic rumor that Eddie Rodgers (promoter of all international matches in Locakhart/Orange Bowl) and former Fusion coach Ray Hudson were interested in creating a new USL pro team at Lockhart.

I am interested in talking more about growing a grassroots movement for bringing back MLS to Florida, so PM or continue this thread.

Take care

Is there any kind of grass roots organization in South Florida like Soccer Silicon Valley in San Jose, or Heart of America Soccer Foundation in Kansas City that's sole purpose is to bring MLS to South Florida? I'm just postulating here, but I don't think it would be hard to get 5,000 signatures of people who'd want to see the Fusion return. The stadium exists, so a committed ownership group is all that remains. That's a big hole, but I've been impressed by the passion and committment of members of SSV and HASF to help their clubs find ownership, could this happen in South Florida? I know the fans are committed there.

Dammit!

As a (hopefully) soon-to-be Orlando resident I would be interested in helping bring MLS back to Florida.

Doesn't soccer have that kinda wholesome image that Disney likes so much?

I bet if we got ahold of Eddie Rodgers or Coach Hudson, they would help us get organized.

Miami International FC (Internacional de Miami)!!
Yeah, it sounds like an airport but it incorporates the international, cosmopolitan nature of the city, the hub of the Americas, bla bla bla.

Then MLS would have a United, a Real, and an Inter :)

you also need to throw in a bayern so we can compare the mls to the bundesliga

edit: a club athletico and AC would fit in somewhere also.

I think the title of this thread was about bringing back the Fusion.

Anyone know how to get ahold of them?

I'm not sure about Eddie Rogers, but letters and/or emails to Ray Hudson can be sent to both Fox Sports Net Bay Area and GolTV.

In any case, I really do hope that the Miami Fusion FC and the Tampa Bay Mutiny get resurrected as MLS expansion franchises sometime in the near future. Perhaps Malcolm Glazer can stop chasing after ManU and instead buy into the two Florida expansion franchises, handing a franchise to each of his two soccer-mad sons (much like Lamar Hunt is reportedly planning to do for his sons with the Columbus Crew and FC Dallas)?

I think Ray Hudson's email at GolTV is thesoccerfiles@goltv.tv
Perhaps some here can take the same initiative as me and email Mr. Hudson about the South Florida soccer scene.

why did Miami and Tampa fold?

*sigh*
Because there was no ownership committment for either team.
Was there some other point to posting in this thread?

Basically Miami was owned by a non-committed owner that thought he would make millions by year 2 in the MLS.
Tampa was always owned by the league with no real ownership.

In 2002 when MLS decided to shrink to help the bottom line, Tampa (with zero ownership) and Miami (with a owner who wanted out) were obvious choices.

Many would say it was lack of attendance, but many teams (KC, Colorado, Dallas, SJ and now Chivas) shows that lower attendance isn't limited to Florida. Yes Miami and Tampa had lower attendance, but if they had owners that were promoting the teams they might have been much higher.

gosh i never thought (as my teams of Perth Glory, Watford FC & DC utd are alive and kicking) about supporters whose clubs fold. What do you do?

i was looking in this section aboot Miami and i like the whole 'Inter' Miami thing or Athletico, sounds like Athletico Madrid or any other hispanic team ring.

but 'Fusion' just didn't do it for me.
