View Full Version : There goes Phil Schoen scaring my cat again...

I was watching the Sporting-AZ Uefa Cup game on Gol yesterday, and it happened again.

Panilla scored an amazing goal, one that would make anyone that cared about soccer yell for a bit. That I can handle.

But it's the ear (and speaker) splitting yell, with his voice breaking, that makes it sound like Phil Schoen's voice has escaped from the television and is screaming right into your eardrum. And I had my TV volume pretty low, as I was reading at the same time.

Yet again, my cat bolts out of the room and takes cover underneath my bed.

The English announcer on the Man Utd-Newcastle game gave a shout when Rooney scored that great volley, but Schoen's yells are different...there's something to do with the volume of the mic or how close he is to it. I've noticed this with the two guys covering the Serie A games as well.

I know others and I have mentioned this before, just another instance...any way to work this out?

No, that guy must EAT the microphone when he yells. He's SO quiet all game, and then when there's a goal you can tell the signal level bouncer goes from about 0.3 to CREATING GALE FORCE WINDS. It's obviously a sound engineering issue, and they need to put him through a noise gate or a compressor or something.

i've stopped watching most games on Gol TV because of this (i usually have it or FSC on in the background all the time) If i am going to sit down and watch a game on gol tv i have to keep the audio very low because i am afraid it is going to blow the speaker on my TV when somebody scores. I wonder if constantino3 knows anything about this? He is great at responding about their programming and scheduling, etc.

Max Bretos tends to do the same thing on FSC, and it's always some unintelligible sounds that only vaguely resemble words. I don't know if it's at the same level, but it's damn annoying.

Lately, I've found myself putting the volume pretty low, so I haven't had too much of a problem except when it's a game I'm really interested in. Then I just have to cringe and suck it up.

lol - yeah, it sucks but I have to keep the volume down like everyone. I enjoy his announcing - nothing wrong there - and I love the enthusiasm he has fo quality goals but the way they produce the audio needs to change.
