Chill out, my god.
Amen.

You're totally missing the point.
You don't shoot off a firework when the fricking cop is standing there.
You don't tell the artists whose mp3's you downloaded that you did so to his face.
Do you?
Obviously non of us our saints, and i'm sure practically EVERYONE has pirated software to a varying degree at one time or another. The point was simply that it's mean, arrogant and just plain rude to flaunt it to those you've stolen from. Pirate all you wish, have 300 + mp3 cd's, download 3ds max r5, photoshop 7, premier 6.5, or whatever, I could honestly care less.
As for my glossing over the fact that si is doing something illegal by selling a product to another country, well then you're insane. If si has a link on their site and allows US customers to order it, then sure they're avoiding licensing laws and selling it directly to use people. However, which is the case, they send it out through retail channels who in turn sell it to a american's, how are SI at fault?

Well considering the SI guy didn't pop up until after I had said I had a copy from Kazaa, what am I supposed to do? Deny that I ever said it? No, I'm accountable for my own actions, and if they really want to press charges so be it, I did something wrong, so I'll be accountable for it.

I NEVER SAID IT WAS ILLEGAL!!! God, how many times do I have to say that? I swear at least 5 times I've said it is perfectly legal for them to do what they do, simply because the internet is too hard to police. If the internet could be regulated, it would illegal and who would be worse? Me or them?
If SI was going to be completely honest, they wouldn't sell to any US addresses. But I don't blame them for doing it cause I would do what they are doing if I ran the company, but then again... I'm the evil spawn of satan who has a copy of a $40 game, so my opinion on that is pretty worthless.

Since it wasn't available in the US, I'm wondering how *illegal* it was for me to have a copy I didn't pay for. I know it was NOT legal, but if a company is not licsenced to sell a game here, what legal grounds could a company use to prosecute (if so desired) people that have an illegal copy of a product that could not legally be sold in their country? Does that make any sense?
As a lawyer I'm able to answer that question: yes! If you have an aura of "illegality" surrounding an act (the download) and the object of this act is illegal too (the software) you have no punishment at least technically. However this is in LatinAmerica in general terms, to be totallly honest I'm not that sure about the US.

Yep, kinda too late for that, huh?
I understand what you are saying, at least in this regard. Suffice it to say that the SI bunch have been over here numerous times in the past, pre- & post-crash. Not hard to imagine, being one of the most popular soccer sites of the Web. So I guess now you know.
I still think your position is indefensible, and I think deep down you know this, but like I said, you do what you want to do. No one said you HAD to go run out and drop $40 on 01/02 3-4 months before CM4 comes out; lots of other options, the demo, e-bay, 00/01 @ $17 from CDMag.com, ask a 01/02 user for their copy of 00/01 (hell, if I still had mine, I would have sent it to ya). Or download it from KaZaa or some other warez site. We obviously know which route you took. I think profiled had it right when he said that no one really cares what you do, but coming into a very public forum and flaunting it in the face of a. those who spent years of time, effort, & $$$ to get the game to you and b. those who chose to pay for the game -- well, that is pretty brazen and downright rude. Regardless of current circumstance.
To the rest of you -- I apologise for this random foray into a slightly different vein of this thread. This is my last on this particular subject.

I have a question that pertains to the playing of the game.
I got York into the dreaded Inter-toto Cup. THe problem was, despite my varying training in the close season, when the matches came round in July the players were all knackered. THe opponenets players were always much fresher than mine. I still managed to win, but I was worried about injuries.
I've never found a way around that. It seems that all leagues have their 'off' season and nothing you do really gets them ready. Perhaps playing a friendly 4-5 days before the Toto match would help?

I, personally, haven't found anything to beat that. I think regardless of what training you have set up you're players are still going to be tired at that time. Now I just turn down the chance to play in the Inter-toto.

"Well considering they put out a demo that could easily be changed to the full version, they didn't exactly get what they deserved, but better forsight would have prevented 99/00 from being spread as much as it was. "
We prefer to put out complete demos which allow only a limited period play as this gives a user a 'fair' chance to assess the game and decide whether they want to purchase the game or not.
We do put security into these demos, but yes it is possible to 'crack' them - obviously cracked demos aren't as good as the full game because they're missing the editor, extra pictures, sounds etc.
Obviously we could take the stance that we could avoid some 'warez' versions by not distributing demos, however I prefer not to victimise honest people for the acts of a few people (who imho would find a copy via. a different route anyway).
Anyway back to the game ....
"Inter-toto Cup"
Because of when this starts club sides are inherantly unfit for it irl, fortunately for the big sides involved the only truly fit sides playing in the competition at that period tend to be semi-pro sides in leagues which start during the 'summer' .... this allows most clubs from the bigger leagues to use the competition in two ways:
(1) As a warm up substitute for friendly fixtures
(2) A way into the EUFA cup
.... just remember not to try and use a pressing tactic while your players are unfit and to rotate your team a fair bit.
PS. If you hadn't guessed 'profiled' has an interview at SI in the near future .... :D

I just have a few general questions which I never really worried about but, to try and get this back on the actual game I'll ask.
Has anyone actually had any success with the "Request a match postponement"? I've had everything from South American callups to a rash of injuries but get NO sympathy! :D
Does anyone actually play preseason friendlies? I abandoned them after I lost a few key players for the opening of a season one time, the players are never up to fitness for them.
And the ultimate question....what is the most successful training you have used? Do you seperate the main squad from the reserves and work the reserves much harder? Train positions differently? I have just been throwing all the reserves on max for everything and keeping the main squad players on normal....
Last one...how do you ditch a fading player who has had great success at your club but just doesn't cut it anymore? The guy has like 5 supporters player of the year award but his strike rate just isn't cutting it anymore and he is 33...can I cut him loose or will I get fired? No one bites on the transfer front...even on a free....

I have never gotten a match postponed either.

I always have about 4 or 5 preseason friendlies before the season. I start them one month before my first league match. Rotating players every game so no one plays too much to get injured. It helps you evaluate young players and the tactics you will go with to start the season. After every game the players fitness starts to go up and eventually reach 100. Just don't play too many games and don't start preseason earlier than one month before the season starts because their fitness will drop drastically because they are way out of shape.

Treat every player differently, some players need to be trained more for fitness because thier stamina is not great and others need to be trained for a new position. On the whole the training aspect is not that essential in CM 3. So don't worry as much about it.

Chances are you won't be fired. Just let his contract run out if he is asking for too much wages. If he could be used as a valuable reserve than I see no reason to release him. If many players on the team feel he is an indispensible player on the squad than I wouldn't transfer list him because it could make the squad all unhappy.

Whenever I get someone on loan or offer somebody a trial, it says they are ineligible for everything, including league games. What's up with that? By the way, I'm playin CM 01/02 if that helps.

Players on trial are ineligible for all competitve games. Loans should be down to the terms you negotiate.

I have gotten a game to be postponed a couple of times. But 90 percent of the time they will not postpone the games for me. Have had to play some games with 12 players (with the only sub being a goalie).
I usually play a little bit of a preseason, but mostly to work in the new players into the system. I try not to play the stars that much though.

Reached a personal all time in the shots depatment. It was my Metros vs N.E. Revs..... at the end of 90 mins. I had 43 shots on goal...with four touching the back of the net.
I've never had that many shots on goal before....anyone else come close ?

To that guy who was asking about match postponement, I started playing Championship Manager about 3 days ago and my second day playing it I got a match postponement. I was playing as the Chicago Fire, and about three or four guys were playing in the World Cup (2 Ukrainians, 2 Swedes) so I asked the FA to postpone a league match and they did.
Surprisingly, Poland and the United States didn't qualify in my game. I think Honduras snuck in.

Does anyone know why when I play in the J-League I can't access American players. Instead of Mathis or Donovan, I get generic players like "Josh Campbell" or "Jimmy White." That and I can't sign them either.
Also vice versa, when I play MLS I can't get the J-Leaguers or anyone that isn't playing in Europe.
Is there a way to get ALL the players playing at once? It seems like the game only loads for your particular country.

Under game settings you have to choose maximum database. You most likely chose minimum or normal database.

Does anyone know a good, cheap defender who could play in the 1st division in England. Right now I'm playing as Stoke in the 2nd division but if I get promoted I don't want to have to replace someone I just bought.
