How am i meant to progress any further than i already am with such a low transfer budget??
Slowly.
I took over the reigns at Stoke - they gave me £3000 to spend on transfers in my first season. The longer you stay - the more faith the board has in you and so they entrust more money to you.
I'm only 3 seasons into Stoke - but I remember playing with QPR and by the end (15 seasons or so) they were giving me more money than I knew what to do with.
I tend to think a few years into the future when it comes to transfers. Not only are early 20s/teens cheaper to buy - the wage bill is smaller. Get yourself a few good scouts and send them off. Buy the younger players that catch your eye and chuck them into the reserves for a season or 2 They might come good, they might not - just wait and see. Before the QPR board gave me silly money to play with - I'd never spent more than £4m on a player.

The board only gave me 1.7m to spend after i brought in in excess of 15m the previous year. How am i meant to progress any further than i already am with such a low transfer budget??
It isn't that bad, you can get some decent players for that.

I remember when I was manager of Union Berlin and it was nearly impossible for me to fill up our stadium. Even though we had expanded our stadium by 10.000 to about 30.000 and were always at least midtable in the Bundesliga after we got promoted, only 18000 people at most went to our games, even against Hertha BSC, which is the crosstown rival.
Even after winning the German Cup, I couldn't get the people to come in...Do you think it's a computer glitch or that no one likes my team?

When I managed my all conquering QPR team the home support didn't grow that much at all (if at all)- even with them winning everything going. No real change in over a decade in charge.
On a different note...
"has personal problems" - ??? My main striker has this as one of his major concerns.
Has he found out his wife is the town bike?
How do you placate wanky footballers?

Giving the player a leave of absence will usually do the trick. If that doesn't get his head straightened out, you might want to look into selling him - probably to a club in his home country.

I wouldn't say that no one likes your team, not that way. I think it's a bit of both. It's a bit the game limiting it but maybe for a legitimate reason. How many more fans can a few years of good play bring a club? Or even a decade? ManUtd was a big club before their run. And they pulled off a lot of marketing everywhere to pull in fans before other clubs really pushed that side of things. For most teams, a few years in the top league isn't going to bring you 60k every game.
Another way is looking at it this way, if you were bringing in 18k in the top league but only averaged 10k in the 2nd division, that's an 80% increase.

So when again will legitamate versions of CM be sold in the US?

When they're allowed to use real players names.
Anyone know who's made that decision? Moreover why?
"It is with huge sorrow that we have today been instructed by our publisher, Eidos, that due to legal issues, we have to remove the U.S. leagues from CM03/04, along with all players that play in those leagues.
There is nothing we can do about this, unfortunately, and we just hope that it won't spoil your enjoyment of the game too much.
Contractually, we have to comply with this request. We are not able to comment further on this issue, although we hope it will not effect the release date of the game."

FM 2005 will be sold in the US. Under the title MLS Manager 2005. Obviously, as the name states every MLS entity will be represented as best as possible. Not to mention all the normal CM/FM goodness we're used to.

I'm really excited about this. Hopefully it will be easy to find in the usual game stores. It will be interesting to see the general public's reaction to the game.

Just curious - does anybody know if, since the MLS names will be in MLS Manager 2005, will they be in Football Manager as well? I'm guessing they will, and the other name is just a marketing ploy, but I am not 100% certain, so any clarification would be appreciated.

How's this for gratitude?
I cranked up the database to maximum (always an adventure on my machine) and took over managing China. I came in right at the start of the Asian second qualifying round and these are the results I got:
@ Thailand 5-0
vs. Indonesia 6-1
@ Jordan 6-0
vs. Uzbekistan 4-1
vs. Thailand 4-1
@ Indonesia 5-0
vs. Jordan 4-0
@ Uzbekistan 5-1
Despite qualifying for the World Cup with two matches to spare and receiving a "delighted" or "pleased" reaction from the FA after every match, they still said they were displeased with my performance and I showed up on the Job Info screen as "Very Insecure."
In the immortal words of Kurt Russell, "What?"
Has this happened to anyone else?

Not to me...I managed Germany and from the start I was in the good with the DFB. Of course, winning the Confed. Cup helped that out as well...

From everything I have read MLS Manager will be the same as FM Manager, with a different box. MLS and the SI guys have developed a relationship and a deal to get MLS teams into the game, since they haven't been sice CM4. The game name must have been part of it.
SI has said that the games will be identical.
Here is the official SI site for FM: http://www.sigames.com/softography.php?type=view&id=16
Here is a highlight of the inclusions:
Playable leagues in 43 countries. (All majors, don't know which minors)
More than 140 playable senior divisions and in excess of 100 playable cup competitions.
Reserve and junior league competitions.
More than 235,000 players and staff (from 145 different countries) with players boasting more than 120 separate attributes and non-playing staff boasting 40.
A database of more than 14,000 clubs, 3,000 of which can be managed.
Data supplied by a network of more than 2,500 researchers from around the world.
Updated 2D ‘top-down’ match engine.
Improved ‘radio commentary’.
Increased interaction with the media.
Reworked injury system.
Improved scouting system.
Improved finance module to reflect the changing face of football.
Comments when negotiating with human managers (network multi-player game only).
Inclusion of U18 Caps.
More realistic awards system.
