I'm getting a new computer soon but will I be able to continue with my current saved game on it once I install CM4, or will it be stuck on this comp?
You should be able to transfer the saved game file onto the new computer. As long as you put it into the same folder and everything, you should be fine.

just burn the save file and transfer it to the appropriate folder.

You'll defintely need to burn it on a cd though. Those files are way too big to fit on any floppy disk.

Ok, for someone who's been out of the "game" for a while--last version I have is 01-02--if I was going to get a new copy, what do I get?
03-04?
CM4?
Neither?
Help, people. :)

Stand alone, as in 03/04 is not a patch to CM4, but rather the next one in the series.
Being a vet of the latest CM installments I would recommend that you purchase 03/04. It is far and away better than CM4 in terms of polish and playability. More importantly it's quicker. The only downside to 03/04 is that MLS isn't there.

Tell Spartak it's quicker. :D Anyway, I went with CM4 because I could get it cheap, and it'll tide me over until the Collyer boys manage to find a real publisher for the next one (F you very much, Eidos).

It's quicker if you run a medium or small database. A large database absolutely cripples the pace of the game.

in the next patch 4.1.3 the large database will be reduced in size to fix this problem.

I'm having trouble with game speed, too (and the database is even at the smallest size). It might have to do with the fact that I selected "full detail" for three leagues. Is there any way I can untrigger the "full detail" for two of the leagues without starting over?

Nope. Once you check full detail there is no way to undo it once you start a game. I don't think that is the problem anyway. The new patch http://gamefiles.blueyonder.co.uk/blueyondergames/championshipmanager4/patches/win32/cm0304%20Patch%204.1.3.exe is supposed to fix the speed problem. I haven't had a chance to see if in fact it does yet.

Still playing 00/01, picking up with my current save (now at Halifax), having some success currently going along nicely in the 1st division.

I just started a new game with the latest patch running 11 divisions on large database(I could run 22 divisions on large database on CM4 with no problem) and it is faster now. But it is still nothing compared to the speed at which CM4 ran. Whereas, before this patch the game was unplayable on large data now it is playable but still slow. From what I hear medium database now zooms by. But I will never play on medium database because of all the players the game will be missing.
