I am playing with Newcastle and it is not that easy to win the PL or CL. I am in season 4 and have been in the top 4 of the PL every year but Chelski kicks my butt all over the place. I think there is still a challenge starting in the top leagues.

damn. four yrs with newcastle and NOTHING? with the young stars such as jenas, dyer, bramble, ameobi (not sure how good he gets in the game), the veterans, and money you should do better somewhere.
i mean the defense starts off pretty solid, good goalie, very good midfield, and good attack even tho i need a replacement for shearer soon.

In my second season with brighton (playing 01/02) my scouts looked at Jenas (he was on loan somewhere) and said he was a fairly good player. Coming from my scouts, thats like saying "I wouldn't hire him at Mcdonalds."
Before this game the last game I played was with Blackburn (my first time playing in a long time, and my first first division side) and I could not believe the money they throw at you. I quit after a couple of years when Friedel lost confidence in his manger's ability (shortly folllowed by the whole squad losing confidence in the manager's ability -- who is that guy, anyway?), but with that kinda money you can sign anyone who's willing to play there.
In my current game I've just won the div2 title and am gonna get my arse whooped on in div1. How do you raise your wage bill by a factor of three without improving your squad? If you want to know, PM me, 'cause I've done it.

Maybe I'm not using a magic tactic or something, but it is hard. I've found in all the CM versions the English leagues are harder then others. If you take Barca or Real Madrid in Spain, you're guarenteed victory. But in England someone always comes up to bite you in the arse. Like Chelski.

I like managing top tier teams and going from job to job and seeing if I can rack up and Impressive career. I'm also US Nats manager so that is also really important to me. I started at Barca, and in the 2nd season won both La Liga and the CL the first year I won the UEFA Cup (Treasnor Patch) after (selling Kluivert + Saviola) bringing in Robinho, Diego, Zonnenveld, and Zidane, I moved on to Man City..I didn't do to well w/ them in the 4 months I Was there and I wanted the AJax job, Ajax hired Louis van Gaal the Man Utd manager and I have now just taken over at Old Trafford and I'm chasing some big name players w/ my huge transfer budget.

DFR why arent you getting 0304 if you like managing the US? i think it would be pretty cool and challenging to manage them in the new game.
definite players you will have in the game to begin with:
adu, donovan, keller, howard, friedel, obrien, reyna, sanneh, skeztela (idk, the u17 kid), spector, kirvoski, and there is another one at man u, no? and i know there are probably a lot more in the lower leagues.
plus with luck beasley, bocanegra, convey, and donovan could be moving over there during the winter window.

Just started out with CM4. I held off on it based on reviews here and on other boards, but it's not nearly as bad as it was made out to be.
My only complaint thus far is that it's far too easy to get big players to small clubs. I've started out in the A-League with Vancouver and have signed both Brett Emerton and Stilian Petrov to contracts following a period on loan. What are the chances of that caliber player coming to the A-League ever?
Still enjoying it so far though.

Actually, I'm not, and that could be the issue. I just can't be bothered to wait the download time on my slow connection.

do you pay by time or have an unlimited time plan? also do you have an extra phone line or just dont care about keeping it busy?
on sunday night start the download and by the time every1 is home from work or school it should be good. the updates really change the game tho.

I gave up on my save, started over with a fresh install+patch, and just went with the official data update. Unfortunately this meant that QPR were without a couple of good players they had signed (MacLoud, Rowlands, Sabin). But I was able to do some smart shopping of my own, swiped Jimmy Corbett from Blackburn Reserves for the right wing, loaned Rolan Vine from Portsmouth (hat trick on his debut!), and a few intriguing youngsters....
..and as I type this, Sunderland chips Culkin to go up 2-1 in the League Cup 1st round. :(

OK, I think I've found my first glitch in this game. I'm looking at an Arbroath striker named Kristopher Myles, who has career stats dating back to 84/85.
And he's 18. :O
(Well, I do have only the Scottish Premier division running, since the other clubs aren't likely to make it to the Old Firm's level in this game's lifetime ;) )

just learned this on the sigames forum, tell me if you already knew this plz as i didnt and now am quite happy.
to get players to come up from your youth system, put all your u19players on reserve team and next season they will refill the team. pretty cool, no?

That is very cool, I didn't know it. Does it hurt the development of you u 19's to be playing on the reserve side and maybe not getting as much game time?

im sure it would hurt their development if they did not get playing time. maybe they only have to be on the reserve squad for a specific date, which if on that date the u19 is empty it will fill up. i will look into this.

I have a question for everyone here. I remember reading somewhere way back in this thread about how someone took all the MLS and A-League teams and put them in the English league. I'm guessing that you have to download an editor or something. I have CM4, and if someone could tell me how to do this I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
