I can't enjoy CM w/out the realism. When I first played CM I only ran the Entire Spanish League. And it created an Unbalanced league w/ Spanish Teams dominating because they were the only ones buying players. So you'd see more English and German players in Spain. And it didn't make sense. Removing the Dutch league would be larceny.

Worse than removing the MLS. Because Ajax is Ajax.. Ajax,PSV, and Feyernoord are bastions of European football.

ajax is basically the only team i use n i would buy the game without them...hell even w/o the dutch league or nt.
btw i LOVE the dutch league due to their rules on foreign players (no limit).
can any1 tell me some good leagues that are similar.
i dont like spain cuz only 3 non-eu players allowed,
england can be cool but u need internationals on ur team which means u need a lot of money and its frustrating when u cant get a work permit for a good young player.

those are the only leagues i have run. i am pretty sure brasil and argentina only allow a few non country players.
so what about umm i guess italy, germany, portugal, turkey, etc.

Germany totally rocks ... 8 non-Eu players allowed on the squad ... 5 allowed in match lineup.

Lets you get a few younguns and see what they can do!

Germany's Non-EU rules make the most sense. Spain's are just frustrating. Holland + Italy is so much fun to manage in.

Was managing Japan, then got the obligatory post-qualifying sack.

Took over Everton, though that may have been a mistake. Starting your tenure $30 million in debt is more than a bit of a hinderance.

Picked it up again myself the other week. Finally managed another FA Cup win. One hundred and twenty seasons after the previous one.

I'm playing cm4 with the latest ep
coaching man u since 2002-3
From 2005-6 to present (nov 7 2012) I have won 7 straight epl, champs league doubles. in 2008-9 i won the treble(fa cup). I'm currently 3rd in the prem (4 points back with two games in hand) and have qualified for the second round of the champs league with a game to spare. One wierd thing i have noticed is that nearly every year atleast 3 of the 4 semi-finalists in cl have been english. I have played newcastle 4 times in the final. IS their someting in the programing that makes teams in the league i'm in advance with me or is it just a fluke that english teams are so good?

p.s. best transfer i made was to pick up tito henry from arsenal for $22.5 in jan 2007 when they were in dire finacial straits. He scored 50+ goals three years in a row.

also at one point was also coaching brazil on the side but they sacked after qualifing for the wc.

Generally whatever league you have active tends to do better, especially if no other leagues are running, since the teams in your league are more active buying players.

Yes when I first started CM4 I played only Spain's multiple divisions, I began to see English + German players being bought and anxious to move into Spain. Suddenly the best Spanish players were being found in the lower divisions.

I just started a game with Brighton in 01/02. Barely keeping the finances above water, and it'll be a long time before i get any transfer money. what kind of prize money would i get for finishing mid-table in div2?

I've played five seasons with Chicago, here's what I've done so far:

2003-

lost Eastern final to Columbus
lost in US Open Cup 2nd round to Arizona

2004-

won MLS Cup final over Dallas
lost in US Open Cup 3rd round to Seattle
lost in Champions Cup semifinals to Club America

2005-

won MLS Cup final over Colorado
won US Open Cup final over Vancouver
lost Champions Cup final to Cruz Azul
lost in Copa Panamerica semifinals to Chivas

2006-

lost MLS Cup to Los Angeles
won US Open Cup over Milwaukee
lost Champions Cup final to Cruz Azul
lost Copa Panamerica final to River (1-5 agg)

2007-

lost MLS Cup to Los Angeles
won US Open Cup over Dallas

I still have most of the core from 2003. My best players are Beasley, Memo Gonzalez, and Jaqua, who just got his first cap.

I haven't read through ALL 92 pages of this thread, but:

ANY OF YOU THAT LIVE IN THE STATES WITH CM4, WANT TO JOIN A NETWORK GAME?? I LIVE ON WEST COAST AND GAME TIMES ARE:

MON & WED nights 9-11pm

If you are interested, email me or reply here. There are currently 2 others that will be playing. I have full details and rules on another forum, and this is A SERIOUS GAME !! We dont want players that will play a game or two and not show up at all the game times. Its way better playing human managers instead of the CPU all the time, so try it out.

ill try answering for him.
i guess if you love a team you wanna manage them. and also them being the best may not mean much in 5-10 seasons IF you try building your future teams on youth players.

i have managed arsenal once only cuz i like the english league and for their money and it sucked cuz everytime i would go to buy a player they werent as good as the ones i had had.
only other examples of big teams for me were newcastle which was fun cuz i wanted to make them into the best Euro team but it was before the ep5 update n a bug killed it.
i usually manage ajax who are considered a big team but i like it cuz i build around youth and worry about euro success.
although i agree with you, when 03/04 is out i wanna take a div 2 dutch team to the top of europe.

I like taking the big teams because I know their players and want to win the big championships.

I finally got CM4, managed to sneak QPR into the playoffs, then beat Barnsley to win promotion! But now it's repeatedly crashing at a certain point, after Accrington(?) makes an offer for an Arsenal youth. :O

Have you downloaded EP5 from www.sigames.com?

Yes. Installed that, then a further data update (the 9/2 one?). Just tried adding a new manager before the crash, no dice, looks like that save is dead.

(CMSorted4 update)

PS: I've now tried changing the data update, deleting the /data/comp folder etc. Sure looks like a corrupted save to me. So I guess it's official, God (Microsoft/etc) hates QPR. ;)

On another note, how long is it *supposed* to take to create a new game? (just after the choosing nations/divisions)

Dammit..now I'm tempting to start a file w/ QPR I had a DC United file which is when Ranger's fired my ass. But maybe QPR back to the high divisions..hmmm..

I 100% agree. Any moran can take Man U or Real etc and win league championships, cups and CL. It is not an achievement. It is not difficult.

The fun of CM is taking a bottom division team like a conf or d3 in england and trying to take them to europe. You have to watch your wage budget, you have little to no transfer money, little to no club reputation to get star players and have a lack of structure in terms of stadium, sponsorship and training grounds.

That is hard and challenging. It is pretty freaking cool when you build one of those teams into a championship team.

My favorite game was when I took Blackpool (who were then in D3) into the EPL and the finals of the CL. I built my team from no-name players and had the pleasure of watching players mature into world class players. It was cool to see that I was expected to win the EPL.

Right now, while I figure of CM4, I am managing Southend. When I took over Southend was in massive debt and I had almost no tranfer budget and almost non of the money from players sold went back into the tranfer budget. Right now I am in my sixth season and have Southend in 5th place in the First Division. I have improved the club financials to the point where I have a transfer budget of 1.7 million and can retain most monies arising from sold players.

I only have one name on my roster that most people will recognize and I think that is only because it is the recently departed jimmy smith (and he is unhappy at his contract but I can not pay him more).

My center backs have been with the club for all six years (I brought them in on free tranfers my first year). They have both developed into tremendous players who average in the 7.6's every season. They are now 26 and 27 respectfully and are tied up for at least 2 more seasons. I am almost proud of their development and one of the them now wears the captain armband.

For those of you who think managing Man U is fun try to manage a d3 or conf.team. At first it will be fustrating. You will lose many many games and score few goals, but when the team starts coming together the jouney is better than anything
