actually I'd like a MLS/US Champions League Thread in the US Men's Forum. The Games Forum only talks about the bigtime foreign leagues. Whaddya say Mods? Can we keep it here?

I just started playing recently and I'm managing San Jose. Has anyone else noticed that Edson Buddle, Walde Harris, Taylor Twellman, and Eddie Johnson are absolutly unstoppable? Any idea on how to actually stop these guys?

Gaven and Clark also turn out quite nicely. Also Pope is talented enough in the game (and in real life IMO) to start for top tier clubs in Europe.

And no, I'm not a Metrostars fan.

I've been playing Preston North End (wanted the challenge of a 1st division team, they weren't in debt, and have Eddie Lewis newly signed and the beginning of the game).

After signing Freddy Adu (you have to appeal to get his work permit through--didn't play him much at 1st, but he's coming along well --get him and Fabio Paim 15 year old from portugal and they will run your team for years), I went on to win the 1st division with over 100 points and was promoted.

2nd season: win my last 3 games to save off relegation.

3rd season: finish 2nd to spurs (keller doesn't play for them.

I've bought Bocanegra (plays better in the middle --bought for 2.3 million and is worth 4.5 and the end of the season.

Pope is a good pick up but whines about wanting to go home.

Lewis hardly plays for me, but has 20's (the best) in crossing and penalty taking.

I've heard that Adu, Memo Gonzalez, and Santino Quaranta turn out to be great.


I played a season as the Crew--everyone in Europe wants McBride for around 5 - 8 million. Buddle plays well too. It's really hard to play MLS because you can only have 2 discovery picks and the salary cap sucks beans.

The most fun game--can't wait to start CL qualifying matches with PNE soon.

well this is my first time playing the game and I'm suing SJ. Half way through the season Memo leads the league in MOTM. I start DeRosario up top with Landon, and Arturo Alvarez on the left Flank (because of his speed and his relativly great passing). And I have the best strike partnership in the league with both guys having 10 goals and like 7 assists. Unfortunatly my central midfielders (Ekelund, Lagos, Russel, Roner) can't hold up against the best teams (LA, Columbus). And my defenders can't handle forwards who are great in the air

How did you get Howard and Pope. Teams refuse to deal with me for star players

I've had the same problem, you just can't get star MLS players through the trades. I have been playing with chicago and I just signed Adu, who interestingly enough, was currently with the charleston battery. I also signed ryan cochrane and amado guevara, but my team still loses to columbus like 4-0 every time. I also think there is a bug in the game relating to sasha victorine, because he had like 18 goals my first season and is unstoppable!

i am Ajax in the game. i started with the original lineup with most of the default settings. only bought some plays on a free from south american clubs (like 5 of them) and most are worth over 10m euros now (ill post names when i get back to my house).
oh ya and i got adu.

1st: season only real signing was Sonck during the winter transfer window and he finished averaging 1.3 goals or so a game. finished 2nd in the league, 3rd place in my 2nd phase group in the CL, and somehow lost to some crappy team in the semis of the dutch cup.

2nd season: 1st in the league with one loss and around 85pts (finished the season on like a 20 games without a loss), lost to newcastle in the quaters of the CL, and won the dutch cup. im applying for the croatian, mexican, brazilian, and argentine job right now.

i havent sold any key players yet but im loading up my youth and reserve teams (had around 80+ players at once). i could make close to 100m euros by selling my top 3 players and still have backups almost as good as they are. i am going to be a dominant force!

Personally I still prefer the versions of CM3. Altohugh maybe quite a lot through a long term game.
