I don't play with MLS so maybe it is different there but I usually have about 22-25 senior club players and about 18-20 reserves. You should have your squad at around 40-45 players all the time for a couple reasons.

1. Keep it above 40 so your players don't complain about the lack squad depth(more for major clubs, smaller clubs I gather can get away with having 35 players).
2. Keep it below 45 so you will get youngsters promoted from the youth academy. If you always have 45-50 players in your squad you will never get any players promoted from the youth academy because there would simply be no room.

Ahhh... that's why I never got any player promoted from the youth sides. Thanks.

The complaining about squad depth isn't in 00/01, which might somewhat explain my squad sizes. Try to keep it about 25 players max, with about half a dozen in the reserves out of that total.

"It's text-based, though I read somewhere that CM4 is going to have some sort of 2D in-match graphics."
This is true, however it will 'complement' the text commentary and not replace it.

"How can I find a copy of this game? "
You can purchase the game as an 'online' download from:

About international playing, don't waste your time unless you have an AWESOME computer. What you basically have to do is have backround in EVERY league in the world. Also for some reason the comp. picks some REALLY dumb squads for CONCACAF clubs, namely the US. I'm currently playing with Man United in 2008 and Donovan is starting for me, by far the best American in the game, and he isn't even a normal player for the US team. I hope the international competition will be MUCH advanced for the next version. Another problem is the amount of time in between meaningful games, one friendly every 2 months for the US (no Gold Cup pisses me off) will easily lose patience.

One more thing....Get Arjen Robben (he transfers to PSV in Holland automatically) in the 01/02 version. He is in my estimation the best young player in the game before the random generation starts.

I strongly suspect I'm just about to get the sack again when the game has finished its update. Hosts and reigning European championsions, finish bottom of the group without scoring a goal (draw with Scotland, lose to Sweden and Denmark)

Well I was England.

Now half way through the next season with Windsor & Eton, not too far off the relegation zone in the Conference. Not too bad for a squad costing a grand total of £2,000

International management is really difficult for a few reasons:

1. No way to search for players or have a shorlist. This is definately needed, otherwise you have to manually search for each player you want to call up to the Nats.

2. Injury replacements. I hate that I am forced to remove a player from the squad and name his replacement immediately with no game occuring. Plus, with no shortlist, I often forget about the injured player when the time comes to name my roster.

3. Boredom. Don't even bother managing a national team without managing a club at the same time. You'll die of boredom. Then, you'll be in the heat of battle worrying about your club and a Nats game will pop up and you have to worry about that, it really breaks up the rhythm.

I've quit playing MLS. I got to like 2022 with DC United and it got boring, tired of winning everything. I had like $80 million in the bank.

Now I restarted and I'm in my 2nd season with Boston Utd. Finished 2nd in Conference last year, I'm in 1st now, 3 points clear and only lost once all year.

In CM00/01 at least you can have an international shortlist without needing to be a club manager too.

And after my last post, I promptly finished off the season with a 22 game sequence without a win. Somehow managed to stay up.

CM is by far the greatest time waster of our generation. I'll go a few months without playing, then start it up again, and the next dozen or so evenings are effectively shot. Eagerly awaiting CM4, with half of the rest of humanity, mostly because it looks like CM4 will add the US A-League.

One thing I've noticed in 01/02 that it is a lot touchier with the datat updates -- the CM Sorted update is the only one I can seem to get to play nice with the program. Unfortunately, CM Sorted doesn't seem to pay much attention to the Eastern European leagues.

It is a LOT more fun starting out at the bottom with a team; probably my best game was with the 00/01 version, getting Lokomotiv Saint-Petersburg to the quarters of the UEFA Cup the year after winning the Russian Cup. Playing the Russian leagues is tough, even with Zenit SPb (I would NEVER stoop to playing with Spartak, of course ;) ) because it is virtually impossible to get anyone outside of Eastern Europe to join your team, even at ridiculous wages ("cultural changes").

Currently in a game with Oxford, 2 places out of the 1st division promotion playoffs with about 10 games to go in 2005; Jovan Kirovski (??!!) came cheap in the first season and has been the team MVP ever since (too bad life doesn't quite emulate fantasy, huh?); Marcus Hannemann is my GK. I tried to sign the UK & Euro based Americans that I could somewhat afford, got rejected by everyone (JOB, Stewart, Sanneh, etc. -- even Thorrington!) So I had to settle for 2nd tier Americans instead.

That's odd, I've had Thorrington on my York City team for about 6 seasons now. Two time fans player of the year. I rescued him from Scotland though, so maybe he's playing for a bigger club on your game.

I don't have a... hmmm how can I say it.... "legal" version of CM01-02

I downloaded it from kazaa so I'm not sure about how work the patches.

Also I'd like to ask, and pls be honest, what is the most times you had to play an important match until you get a decent result, I mean, how many times have had to cheat in a trascendental fixture?

i played 22 times arsenal vs leeds! to lost 1-0 :(

In an effort to be productive again, at least until CM4 comes out, I'm offering up my copies of CM 99/00, 00/01, and 01/02 to anybody interested.

Here's how we'll do it. The first person to PM me and request ONE of the games will get it. No asking for all three. So there will be three winners.

I have the instructions and cases for 00/01 and 01/02 and I'm pretty sure I have the instructions somewhere for 99/00. I'll even pay to ship them wherever you find yourself.

Good luck to those who get the games, because free time will be a thing of the past to you.

Wow.... I'd totally take you up on that offer, but I got 01/02 off of Kazaa about a week ago, so I'll leave it to someone who could use it.

I took SJ to the league title and USOC Final victory yesterday. I lost in the first round of the playoffs because it didn't help that most of my key players got injured in the last week of the season, I was so pissed.

But after adding Diallo and Albright in the off-season, somehow that screwed up my team and I was fired halfway through the season. Having to goto work, I just decided to go on vacation and leave the game running trying to find me a job. Well I was hired by Dallas, was there for a few years winning the USOC and Champions Cup, and then was fired. I just happened to come home in July of 2011 right when I had been hired by Chicago (the comp had only played one game) so I took it over and then my computer crashed so I didn't get a chance to play it, oh well.

I think I'll do the same think with another team when I goto work tonight, it's kinda cool.

You guys need to check yourself with all the downloading stuff, one of the main guys at si (the games creators) reads this form (actually posted...).

I've purchased every version since cm2, and I suggest you do the same from now on. Honest.

Alrighty, since I still have "newbie" status, I'm not able to send PMs yet. That makes it rather tough to respond to the PMs I've received. So, those that have messaged, hold tight. I will respond as soon as I'm permitted.

Honest: I dl'ed CM01/02 from Kazaa same as Mario. (And after a great helping hand, was able to patch to the most current version-thanks again!)

Honest:I will purchase CM4 when it comes out. I'm not going to spend $30-40 for a game that I will only play for 3 months. Sorry, SI. I'm telling some of my friends about the game, though, so hopefully they'll buy some CM4's when it comes out. (I won't copy THAT for them. But will give them CM01/02... :) )
