The file size is 328Mb. I'm only running the one league (on normal database), largely due to the specs of my old PC (266Mz, 96Mb RAM) not being able to handle that much more. Always liked the leagues with a bit of depth to them (esentially England and Italy really).

Completed about 15 seasons on that, before transferring it over to my current machine (XP1600+, 256Mb DDR Ram). Just managed to fit it on a zip disk at the time. Incidentally, when you have got past the game storing the maximum number of games, the file size doesn't increase as rapidly.

Actually only the second game I started seriously on this version, six seasons with Pro Vercelli beforehand, before that got seriously weird in the seventh. Had loaded up a save with Halifax, but quit before a competitive fixture as I realised that I had the small database on. Restarted lower down.

No idea as to whether it is the longest though. From visiting the SI forums, it is the longest I've seen to actually play through the seasons. But I suspect there is always someone who probably has got further.

I managed to do 13 seasons on my old cpu in 00/01 with all 25/6 leagues running foreground but using a min database...it was about in the mid 500MB range before I quit it.

Won the WC 2x 2006 against Portugal and 2010 against Japan

At the risk of pissing everyone off (though it is kind of a specialty of mine :)), where is the best place to order CM4 online, taking in consideration price, delivery, not taking my money and leaving town, etc.?

Earlier on someone mentioned pre-ordering it from www.chipsbits.com in VT. They sold out quickly but have since re-stocked. I ordered it from them and had it in the mail a few days later for $45 + S&H, though I wasn't sure I had the real thing since the package was the size and shape of a DVD.

You'd think I was working for them after posting this a couple of times...

edited to say after checking back they now appear to be sold out again. Sorry NGG.

During testing we regularly soak for over a hundred years game-time.

Longest (game-time) games in-house so far are 31 seasons (Miles CM01-02) and 15 seasons (Pete - CM4).

My personal records are 27 seasons (CM01-02) and I am currently sitting 9 seasons in on my current CM4 Brighton game.

I'm in the middle of my 20th season with Coventry. Still going strong. Luan, how long (real life) have you been playing the game? How much must you play a day? I've had my game going for two years, but took a couple breaks totaling about 9 months. So I've actually gotten 20 seasons done in about 15 months of playing.

I just drew the worst opening schedule I've ever seen.

First four league fixtures:

Chelsea vs. Birmingham City
Birmingham City vs. Manchester United
Birmingham City vs. Newcastle United
Arsenal vs. Birmingham City

Things must be quieting down (relatively speaking) at SI if MV has time to post here again :)

Over two years now. Think it works out around a hour a day :o. Too much time on my hands at the moment.

Two countries have largely dominated international football, England (some of the time under my control) and Argentina. The latter the only team to make every World Cup.

Just played the 2138 World Cup, in China, with my England side beating Republic of Congo in the final, the latter after qualifying for the first time too. The hosts beating Japan in the 3rd place match.

The biggest successes relative to the current expectations in football would be Scotland and Ireland, both multiple world champions.

San Marino are a lot more respectable now though. Never actually qualified for anything, but capable of mid table finishes in the groups. One of their club sides recent Champions League winners too.

Thanks mate!

On another note, two addon questions regarding 00/01:

1) Is the online game addon worth getting?

2) Does anyone have a WORKING link to the Israeli League patch?

I thought of a question last night while playing CM 01/02:

When playing a game the two most important numbers I keep an eye on are the players rating, and their energy level. When deciding what player to take off, what should be the biggest consideration, energy or performance?

Now to me this is a very weighted question for many reasons:
1. Consider the players involved history. Have they come up big, are they your star, etc.
2. Does the low energy player have a "potential" injury?
3. When is your next game? If the low energy guy is a regular starter, you dont want to run him so low that he wont be at full strength for the next match.
4. How has the player you are thinking about subbing out performed so far in the current game? The game provides a rating, but often I dont like to pay attention to the rating. (I've seen guys be at an 8 and have average stats while others have a 5 and have the same or better stats)

I tend to go straight on the energy rating. If a guy is approaching 80 I take them out. On my three subs a game, that usually leads me to replace each winger (in my 3-2-2-2-1) with one sub left over. But at the same time I'd like to develop other players with valuable sub time besides my two backup wingers.

What do some of you do in these situations? Also, how much weight do you put on how a player performs without high energy, and how much weight do you put into the ratings the game gives the players?

I often hesitate to sub a player who is burning himself up too fast (esp wingers) because I like to save subs for an offensive gamebreaker and/or a defender who is playing on the edge and picks up a yellow card. Plus I don't usually make my third sub until the 75 minute mark to guard against a keeper injury.

If a winger is getting burned up too fast, I might shorten his runs, forward runs, switch him off from pressing/playmaking/other responsibilities and do other types of tweaking to allow him to stay out there. I might replace him if the game is under control, but I am hesitant to pick wingers who aren't very high in stamina AND work-rate anyway.

I am more conscienteous about "guarding" my center mids (especially the attacking minded ones or dedicated defensive ones - not so much the all-arounders who I also require to be high in stamina AND work-rate) against getting too tired, because in my system - I more typically have a rotation amongst them and I can't stand to give up goals through the middle of the field late in the game. Usually they hold up pretty well, but their energy levels seem to vary relative to particular games more than other players (it is strange how some matches, the same player in the same CM position/tactic will be involved in 10 tackles and 5 contested headers and make 4 runs and the next game its 4,2,1).

If I do replace "edge" players, I often move a "versatile" midfielder (usually an attacking style player) from the middle of the field to the wing and replace the player in the center of the field.

But far and away, the guys I swap the most are the guys who I count on to score goals. If it ain't happening and he ain't taking shots, I will pull him at the 60 minute mark. Occasionally, I will have an offensive player who (Djorkjaff among them) who almost seem to play better when they are low on energy. So I don't even watch it too closely until it goes below 75 if I am past the 60 minute mark. But other forwards immediately lose all of their effectiveness when they go below 80, like you mentioned.

I usually only pull a winger if the other team is completely dominating play from one side of the field and I simply cannot contain him with the pairing I have (when I play against a guy like Didier Agathe in SPL or Ze Roberte in Bundesliga, etc).

Hey guys, I'm currently in season 05/06 with cm 01/02. I was playing with my made-up team in spain for the past seasons until i got bored and took up the #17 team in the EPL, namely Arsenal (Leeds were champs).

Arsene Wenger was sacked/retired and all of the core players besides Lauren and Henry were sold to teams in Serie A. And so, after battling to keep Arsenal in the EPL and winning the UEFA cup (1-0 over Lazio on an Henry OT pk, talk about exciting), I brought in Ebbe Sand, Daniel Chambers, Patrick Paauwe, some guy named Alex from brasil, and Rafael van der Vaart. These guys cost a lot to keep, but I was expecting that the board was going to expand the stadium because "We assure you that plans are afoot to expand the stadium" Anyways, it turned out that the locals blocked the proposals and the stadium is still at 38k

So in my second season at the club Arsenal are #1, are whipping the crap out of the teams in the UEFA cup, down 24 million for the year with 67 million left in the bank.

I really need that stadium expanded, but is there a law or something that makes Highbry a historical landmark which cannot be expanded?? It's quite irratating just like the 7.25 million MLS transfer fund limit! I know i can always edit the stadium, but I don't want to start all over, is there any reason why the locals won't let me expand? And for you MLS know-it-alls, why is there a $7.25 million transfer cap? How can I get rid of it?!

Your transfer funds are limited by the amount of cash you have in the bank and your reputation.

If you are new to a club, they aren't going to give you free-will of the purse to go out and spend a lot on money on a high priced player.
Win a couple of leagues and prove yourself and that number will go up.
