I have a question about the random name mode that you can play. If I chose to play with Random names and say I chose to manage Liverpool. I know I wouldn't see Michael Owen's name anywhere but will I find a really fast, deadly young English striker?

Unfortunately, yes.
And Real Madrid has a Brazilian left back who is deadly on set pieces.
Etc, etc.

Yes, you can be offered a national team job. Never happened to me, but I've read other people say they have.
I have been offered the England job while only managing at DC United. It was like 2020, my reputation was World Class and I had lead DC to numerous MLS and CONCACAF titles.
Couldn't ever win the World Club Championship since it takes place when MLS players are in the offseason and are our of form.
If you set your nationality to English it can happen eventually. If you set your nationality to American, you'll probably never get offered a National Team job, much less the England job.

On manager nationality, does anyone else notice a glut of top class managers from certain nations?
In my game its currently the 13/14 season and in the top 10 managers of the world 5 are scots 3 are italian and 2 are argentinian.

why wouldn't you get offered the national team job if you set your nationality to american? i thought it was possible to be the manager of the US national team in this game.

You would be able to get the US job no problem if youre nationality was american and youre reputation was good enough.

Out of the top 150 managers on the world reputation screen in my current game, including myself there are 146 Englishmen, 3 Welshman and a Kiwi.

Just seen the highest attendance for a games I've played in. Against hosts Germany in the world cup, and 435,000 turn up to see me crash out inthe quarter finals.

Are you serious? The most I've seen is almost 250,000 in a stadium in Brazil.

Yep, and it is about 100,000 off the competition record.

Another newbie question...I am playing with the demo now waiting for CM4 to come out.
Is there is any way in either the demo or full game to appeal or otherwise influence a work permit decision? I have run into this a couple of times with some younger non-EU players that I'd like to bring in. Thanks for any help.

Nope, there is nothing you can do to overcome this. When you scout a player if your scout tells you he would find it difficult to get a work permit than he won't get it. 100% of the time the scouts are right.

I think I'm gonna go back to playing MLS teams. It just sucks that you have the foreign player limit. But who else has a lot of experience playing MLS teams? I've done San Jose and they're a pretty good team. Donovan isn't worth his price tag so sell him and you can get a great start off to a new game. But I think next time I'll wait a few months, let his pricetag go up. They have a deadly midfield as almost every player is an attacking midfielder, but you have to have the right defensive scheme and players to make sure you don't give up too many goals. BTW, they have a decent amount of money before you sell Donovan so it's no problem with the money issue.
Chicago was kind of tough because, while Wolff is great (he'll score in almost every game), and Dema works really well paired up top with him, their defense is just complete crap. They take some rebuilding on both sides of the ball and Thornton was awful before I benched him. Worse yet the baord expects continental qualification so you gotta do really really good in the regular season if you wanna keep your job.
Then the first team I ever played was KC. They just suck complete ass. No advice on them here, besides just be prepared for a lot of rebuilding and a lot of losing games early on.

Ok, I started a game taking Arena's job, but I've never done international stuff, any advice? I noticed that you can't schedule friendlies, well with the WC coming up and the fed expecting 2nd round, how the hell do I do that without any friendlies? Does it just automatically schedule them?
Also, anyone with experience with the US team? Who to cut lose (Burns??? Lassiter?!?!?) and who to bring up as I noticed that even Wolff wasn't on the squad.

I have no dexperience with this game, but that would be a good place to start.

One of the downfalls of CM3 is it's poor international management aspect. You can't arrange friendlies which is a really bad part because you don't get to test things out many times. The only time I manage a national team is when I'm also managing a club at the same time. Just managing a national squad is quite boring because of the huge amount of time between games. There is not much to do but play the games.

To be fair though international managers don't really get to decide who they play friendlies against. I would like to see a better choice of fixtures for such games to see a bit more variety.

Also another question about reserve teams and scouting, what's a good strategy for them. Basically what I do is send scouts out and if there's any potential players I just go ahead and sign them, usually about 2 or so by each scouting assignment, but sometimes none and other times maybe 5, just depends. Like right now I have 27 players on my reserve team, is that too many or does it matter? Then if I see consistent 5's or 6's on form, I just cut them loose, and if I see 8's or 9's I'll give them a promotion for a game or two, and give them some minutes in a game and see how they perform. But I think there's a lot of turnover on my reserve teams cause I don't have a lot of patience with bad form and I think the board gets pissed when I'm constantly signing players and cutting them a few months later and paying like $20,000 or so as a release fee.
Anyone else have a system on how they run it or any good advice on it?

27 on your reserves
That does seem an awful lot.
