If it's CM4, the patch fixes a lot of that.

I've had plenty of goals taken away because of passive offsides. I have version 4.03 and it still happens. 4.04 might have fixed it, but im just not motivated enough to upgrade.

Does anyone notice how there are a lot less fouls in CM than in real games? I'm not trying to say that CM should exactly mirror real life but you know a man needs to have his fouls in the game.

Back at Hayes for the third time, and have now managed to drag the club back into the 1st division, winning the playoffs at my second attempt in the division. Conversly this was a slow start to the season, with a good finish, rather than the 24/25 season where a good season was ruined by a late collapse.

Still, I only finished two points behind the UEFA Cup/LDV winners.

Liverpool and Man Utd also managed to battle amogst themselves for the first time since what I think is the early seasons of the game. A close fought contest until the final few games of the season, where United pulled away, consigning Liverpool to the Conference.

Finished last season 14th in the Conference. They've been there for over a decade there now.

So is the game worth buying or not?

Can someone who has played the mls tell me what a discovery player is? Is it anyone who plays out of the mls, or does it have to do with age?

This is one of the bugs in CM4.

In real life a discovery player is someone pays a transfer fee for (similar to an allocation but smaller), or at least that's the easiest explanation we've been able to come up with. In CM4 an allocation seems to be any player (or staff) you sign. I'm not entirely sure, since all of my planned MLS purchases have fallen through. You may want to check out this thread (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42383) for other peoples take on the glitches in MLS.

I'm no expert either, but I think you've got it wrong. In MLS, all players are signed by the league and assigned to teams. An Allocation is a big-name player who is bought by the league and assigned to a team. A Discovery player, I believe, is a player discovered (scouted) by an MLS team who is good enough and interested in playing in MLS. The team approaches the league, who then signs the player (maybe) and assigns him to the team which "discovered" him. It would be hard to simulate this in CM4 (but not too hard, I would think).

That's not a perfect explanation, but I think I'm pretty close.

Cardiff were just promoted to the Premier League. It took four seasons. Hooray! Gained automatic promotion by winning and then seeing Bolton lose on the last day of the season in the 1st division.
Roma had their worst season thus far: 2nd in Serie A, knocked out of CL in second phase, lost in Italian Cup finals = no trophies.

You're right, thanks for saying it better than I did. Discoveries are scouted by a team who then has MLS acquire the player for them. IIRC teams get $100K to spend on transfer fees for Discoveries per year, and can spend up to 3 years worth of money at one time ($300K but none for the next two years). At least that was what we determined back in January based on some quotes from DCU's GM about the Reyes Discovery last year.

It doesn't matter what MLS defines a discovery as, the system is really screwed up in CM4.

I offer a player and a pick in trade, Chicago makes a counter offer of $950k in cash.

I'm not playing CM4 until they get things fixed.

Oh well... back to Tournament Dreams bball...

Even if they fix it I still strangely prefer the way MLS is run in 01-02. it's kinda fun to run an MLS team the way you'd run a European team. If they get MLS exactly right in CM4 I might prefer it but if they only get some of right I'd rather it be just like it was in CM3.

As for CM 3, that's what I'm still playing as I got bored with my Rochester European All-Star loan team tearing up the A-League in CM4. Trying hard to get Connah's Quay Nomads (Welsh league) into the first group stage in the Champions League. Got to the 3rd qualifying leg before getting thrashed by Deprtivo. Thought I'd at least get past the first round in the UEFA cup but got an unfortunate draw against Boavista and got mauled by them too.

Coventry Update:
Last I was on here I was complaining about my 30K stadium not filling in, players getting pissed cause other players randomly want to leave, and other teams trying to buy every single player on my side.

I've finished a season since my last post, lots of twists...
The board randomly decided to put the stadium capacity to 35,700!! I've had three record crowds in a row.
I won EPL, FA Cup and Champs League again.
After season was over my chairman "shockingly" resigned. It hasnt said anything about a new chairmen, but did say "Coventry would need to search for a new chairmen soon". Do I need to do this or will it happen in the background?
Two more players caused an uproar by telling reporters they wanted to make moves. One, Italian national teamer, got so bad that he continuously asked to be transfer listed. I'd refuse and he'd ask again. After asking 10 times he quit. Enough players got pissed I sold him to Real Madrid.
Arsenal and Leeds (#2 and #3 the last two seasons) are trying to buy all but 3 of my 24 first team players. Its rediculous.
Driving into the new season and my star forward got man of the match last summer in the WC Final. He's on fire with 8 goals in the first 5 matches.

Just to let you know for the patch 3 that is coming out, there will be major changes to how things work in MLS.

Mainly you can now purchase players.

We know that this isn't correct to MLS, but as many of you have said, it won't be that fun otherwise.

Also the draft has been fixed (oops).

You can know take a senior international player on trial, even if you have your allotment of 3 senior internationals.

Coaches now don't count to your limit of discovery players.

That looks great, thanks profiled! I'm sure we'll let you know if we run into anymore troubles after EP3. :)

profiled (or anyone else that knows), couple quick questions about CM 4.

Last night, playing as Indiana (A-League), Chicago offered me draft picks for a player. I accepted their offer, but had to stop for the evening before any more messages came back. Just wondering if I would actually be able to have Chicago's picks in the next MLS draft (even though it doesn't really work).

CM4 question - is there a problem with training facilities? Been checking out sigames boards and have seen it asked, but never answered. mine seem to not be improving (but getting worse) even though the board says they're investing. Just curious about confirmation that it IS a problem (or if I'm delusional), and if so, that SI knows about it.

Can't wait for EP3. No matter what, SI has great post-release service, which is why I'd never return my game. Just messing around in odd leagues now, waiting for the patch to start a 'career'.

Keep up the good work, guys!

Woohoo...I maneged to get Connah's Quay all the way to the second group stage of the CL. Would have made it to the quarters if Bayern didn't score 2 against Juve in the last ten minutes of their game. Ended 3 up and 3 down against those 2 teams and ManU. I think I was only 2-1-3 in the first group stage against weaker teams.

Now comes the fun part where everybody picks apart my team in the summer because its hard to sign anybody without a minimum release clause. After that its back to the first qualifying stage where all my players are at around 75% fitness. By the 3rd stage they're all the way up to 90%. The other problem is I don't get enough replacements for all those I had to sell in time to register and I end up with about 1/2 of my best players ineligible to play in the CL.

Oh well, such is life in Wales I guess. Allows me to concentrate more on the actual league, even though with the Welsh Premier Cup Group Stage, League Cup Group Stage, and Champions League Group Stage all going in the early season I had played 3 league games by the 2nd week of october while most everybody else had played 9. Makes the players unhappy too: "Think they should be topping the table." No kidding, too bad I have 6 games in hand and I'm only 9 points off the pace.

EP3 better be darn good because it's going to be tough giving up this (CM 01-02) game.
