Maybe the makers of the game have created some kind of secret setting to decide how popular a team is based on real life... It's due to the fact that each city has a city rating, which I believe is based on size. For example, Coventry is fairly small population-wise, so it's going to have a hard time filling its stadium. And to draw on your game, Dusseldorf is one of Germany's major cities, so a club there that starts performing well should be able to pack them in because they have a much larger population base to draw from.

I admit I looked into this with the editor that comes with the game once because I was starting to get frustrated with my financial situation when I was playing Bayer Leverkusen. Just to give you an idea, Leverkusen, which doesn't even show up on a lot of maps of Germany, has a 6 city rating. Rome, Barcelona and London are 20's.

Although, given the above, for the life of me I can't understand how Schalke 04 draw so well in that game. Gelsenkirchen is not exactly the largest of cities.

Schalke are well known for having a big fanbase..
Even before they moved to the new stadium they were pulling big crowds..
There are other examples of small town teams who get big crowds..
Auxerre is town of about 40,000 people and they've got a stadium that holds 25,000+.

So, I downloaded the demo and wanted to take a look at that before purchasing CM4.
Only, I can't. When I click on the icon to run the program, I get: Error 0x000D: Cannot open in fullscreen mode. Well, I don't know of any other modes, and I even went into properties, changed the screen mode, and that didn't help. I don't really care that the demo doesn't work, but, obviously, if the game doesn't run for this reason, either, there's no point in getting it. And that would be heartbreaking.
Any helpful ideas?
Thanks,
Ed

Does your PC have an AMD processor by any chance?

The beta demo was released to show up problems with the game both gameplay and compatibility wise. This allowed us to fix any problems reported before we went to gold master.

One of the problems uncovered was an incompatibility with certain older AMD processors, this has since been rectified and the final game will be fully AMD compatible.

We will be releasing a demo based upon the gold master version of the game this week which will be fully AMD compatible. May I suggest you give that demo a whirl once its released.

Hope this helps,

Marc

So I read CM4 will be released on the 28th in the UK. How nice that I'll be in London on vacation from the 28th to the 30th so that I can pick it up instead of ordering it online. Only problem is having to wait a few days to get home and install it on my computer, well that and jet lag may cause me to collapse when I try and play as much CM4 as I can before falling asleep.

Freddy Adu didn't sign with me at Leeds. Instead he is "over the moon" to sign with Fenerbache! :(

Marc,

Thanks for the note. That's the good news. The bad news, from looking at the minimum requirements for running the full game (processor, screen size), I'm SOL for CM4. And I run Win2000, so CM3 isn't even an option from what I understand. Oh well, would have been fun.

You will of course be smuggling a bagful of copies through customs and then selling them out of th back of your car to junkies like us?

I'll leave some room in my suitcase I guess. I suppose I could hook anybody up in the Chicago area if they wanted :)

What are the requirements of the new game? I just might have to stick with the old one for a while until I can get a new computer cause mine right now is pretty old.

These were the last ones I saw posted on the SI site

"As the game is yet to be completed, these are not yet finalised. However, the recommended minimum spec is expected to be in the region of a P600 with 64Mb RAM. With that specification the user can expect similar performance to CM3 on a P233. Note that more memory will be required the more leagues are run."

I'm looking for a more recent announcement though...

has anyone else noticed this:

i've been playing for about seven seasons with manU, we just won our third straight EPL-CL double, and expanded the stadium.

suddenly, every player on the transfer market claims he's coming over to my team.

like, all of them. today i had 14 messages claiming i was making big-money moves for people i had no intrest in. granted, i've gotten one or two scattered around, but this is like the third day in a row i've gotten upwards of like 8.

is it just a fiesty transfer season or is this something i'll have to deal with?

When you're the top club that's what you get. I started one game as Real Madrid (I know, its heresy) and received countless notifications of players who weren't even on my shortlist declaring I had intentions of landing them in some huge deal. I take it as a compliment when I start with a club that isn't like that (i.e. not Real) and I build them into a club that is so desirable I am implicated in all transfer speculation. But it does annoy my players sometimes and becomes a little bothersome with all the rumors.

Whoops, that's what I get for taking the site's own word, I suppose. ;) Download time!

only 4 days left till CM4.

It's hard to believe the time is almost here with all the delays they have had.

It is either going to make this next term of school really quick or very slow. hopefully quick.

Sounds like pretty soon, if you pre-ordered it.

I pre-ordered CM4 thru gamerUK on 11/30/02. Last Monday, they billed my credit card, came to $46.82 including the shipping. The e-mail confirmation that they sent said that all-preorders will be shipped no later than the 28 March release date. Whoo-hoo!

Doubtless many of you will be aware of this already, but to those who aren't here is a link to a download that will help find those unknown future stars.

http://cmtactics.cjb.net/

Do a search for CM Scout 2.0
Download, then extract the file to your CM folder, any folder will do.

Then open up the file, then click file, open, and choose a previously saved game. Once opened click the find button and enter the required info, for example any 16 tom 21 year olds with a potential abilty of 150 -180, and hey presto a list comes back with them all there.

Using a game with the maximum database I found 1557 16 to 21 yr olds with pot. abilty of 141 to 190.
Among the obvious players such Cavenghi and Diouf
there's Osamir (brazilain goalie at Dom Pedro, 19, 190 !,), Patricio Perez (arg, Str, velez, 16, 189) Lasha Chelidze (Geo, DC, Kutaisi, 16, 185), and 100's more unknown stars of the future.
