Just got CM 01/02 off Ebay for 24.50. I just read this whole topic, and now I wish I hadn't... I'm burning with desire for it to arrive!

you haven't lived yet...and just think the new version will come out in about a month.
but even if you get the new version your money will have been well worth it.
Just finished a season with Roma and Cardiff.
Roma won league, CL and Italian Cup. Only losses were two late league matches after the title was wrapped up and all the young scrubs were playing.
Dortmund got a man sent off in opening moments of the CL final, so that was less exciting than I had hoped for. The only player I brought in during the season was young Sergio Floro to act as a crisis-situation striker.
Cardiff surprised me and we finished third but lost in the promotion playoff. Lots of offseason moves made, however, to make a promotion push. Earnshaw is pretty damn good.
That summer Brazil beat Italy in penalties to win the World Cup.
USA did not qualify.

What the heck, I bought the full version. After messing around a couple of times I decided to dedicate myself to coaching Man City and seeing how far we could go.

First season we were won the First Division (Wanchope scored 29 goals!). I barely survived my first Premiership season, was always in 17th or 18th place, ended up in 15th on the final match day.

But I made the final of the FA Cup (lost to Man U damnit).

I was realy pissed when I was not allowed to buy Gilberto Silva for work permit reasons. Then PSG pick him up without having to worry about that.

But I'm psyched for this next season: Dennis Bergkamp left Arsenal and I picked him up on a free transfer!!!

Time to build a title contender before the games begin.

For a guy who's supposed to be the best finisher England's produced this decade with the exception of Alan Shearer, Robbie Fowler sure is having a hard time getting the job done in my Wolves game. Anyone else ever had bad experiences with him?

Fowler having trouble finishing or trouble staying healthy?

Whenever I play, he's usually an opportunist and one to show up for the big matches more than anything else. Get to a cup final and you'll probably see the Fowler you're expecting. :p

Hell, in 10 matches, my central defensive pairing (Dellas and Lescott) have bagged 5 between them.

A problem any manager would like to have. Unless goals really start to dry up, I'd just say play on and hope Rawhbie can push through that rough patch.

Just win, baby. :D

I have been playing this game for three years now. This is the first time I have stopped to ask this question.... There players in gray on my reserve squad, is there any way to promote them to the a professinal contract or are they just there to fill in the holes on the reserves squad. The other is... If I go to board confidence and ask to invest more in youth development does it give me players i can actually use or are they the same type of players (in gray) that make up some of my reserve squad now.

There is no way to promote them. You have to wait for your assistant manager to promote a player from the youth academy (if there is one for that club). The grey players basically round out the squad for reserve games. When you ask to invest more in youth development they will in effect build a youth academy at the club.

I have been at clubs where I ask the board to invest in youth development and they then build an academy. Then, I I never seem to get any players from that recently built academy, even after several years.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp When Championship Manager 4 is released next month, which team (or teams) do you plan to manage in the game?

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp For me, it'll be:

San Jose Earthquakes
U.S. National Team

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp How about you? :D

-G

P.S. = Are there any other teams that I should manage in CM4 as well?

The first team I manage is obviously Milan. But it is too easy managing them. I usually win everything there is to win in the first 2 seasons and after that it only gets easier with only one team on the whole continent of europe even challenging me. I think CM4 should be more difficult to win with the big clubs. I mean the big clubs never lose any money and the bank balance is just ridiculous. After five seasons with Milan in one game I had $500M in the bank.

After Milan I usually play with Atalanta but it gets easy with them after a couple of seasons too. Although they don't make as much money because they never expand their stadium's capacity.

If you want a real challenge then go to the Russian First Division. I tried Krystal Smolensk a while ago and it is really a challenge. It takes a long time to get to europe with the Russian First division and it took me 10 years to do it with Smolensk. I eventually lost patience because they simply don't have the money to compete and they don't have many fans.

National teams are a bore to me. I hope CM4 is better than CM3 in this aspect.

I'll agree with the latter part, though to me national teams are far from a bore. They're my favorite part of the game.

My biggest complaints in terms of national teams were 1) No Gold Cup, 2) Minimal Asian nations, 3) Zero African nations and 4) You can't set your own friendlies. I'm pretty sure the Gold Cup issue will be addressed in CM4, but I'm not so sure about the others.

Does anybody out there know of a program that will help me find re-gens.....Cheating, I know, but Weah just retired and I'd love to have "him" back as a youth.

As I've never managed Halifax yet, despite over five years of playing (aside from a single friendly), I really should get round to that one.

Although when CM3 first came out I intended to start at Eleysina, but think I ended up at Catania.

That's true. But he does have some input on who he plays and when. I was offered the USA job once after Arena was sacked for qualifying the USA for the WC. I thought I would have some games to figure out who my 23 man roster would be for the final tournament. But from December to June I had 0 friendlies to prepare my squad. That is ridiculous.

Not to mention the two regional friendlies that just happen to pop up in the middle of the final qualifying round.
