Last Night after a couple of difficult years I finally won the Premership:

Last night was the end of my seventh season.

I manage Blackpool (third division) and have since I started the game.

No editors/cheats used

I now have 42 million in the bank

My premership success was only tained by a penalty kick shootout loss in the semi finals of the FA in thecup. I also lost on away goals loss UEFA Cup semi-finals.

Which now makes me the 8th ranked manager in England and 250 or so in the world.

I also won manager of the year. I had the golden boot winner (not my bestplayer) I also had the players player of the year (different player from the golden boot winner

The highest transfer fee I have paid is 3 million. I have only brought in 5 first team players over the past three years. Only two of them are starters.

I look to continue my success next year despite losing by best player 24 Attacking Mid 42 games 34 goals 20 assists...plus he is a National Team starter...I lost him because my club reputation is not high enough and my board will not approve wages over 17,000.00 nor will they approve an expansion of the stadium. ALthough I am proud to say that this player was a 150,000.00 transfer 6 years ago.

Champions League Next Year and hopefully another title.

It's averaging about a season a week over almost two years, so it hasn't been too quick. Although the last 15 seasons (in charge of England), took only a few days.

I think the secret to speeding up Champ Man is getting more RAM. I used to play CM3 on my IBM ThinkPad 1.2 Ghz 128 MB RAM. Then I got a new PC which was 1.7 Ghz 128 MB RAM. I thought I would see a dramatic difference but I didn't. It was slightly faster but nothing significant. I added another 256 MB RAM and now the game is zooming through. When playing CM3 with only 128 MB RAM the computer slows down to a crawl so I would suggest getting more RAM.

Speeding up CM - This is dependant upon the number of leagues you run, if you like to run lots of leagues then I'd suggest purchasing as much RAM as you can ... if not then a fast processor and 64Mb (or more) of RAM should be fine with just a few leagues running (and avoid hitting the virtual memory which is what slows the game down most).

I do believe I've found a bug that affects club histories more than 100 years old.

Nothing too serious however, just the bar at the bottom disappears.

As do the records from about 105 seasons onwards, bit by bit. But both only on League records.

"I do believe I've found a bug that affects club histories more than 100 years old."
That'll be the GUIO limit I'm afraid (each screen has a limit of x thousand items upon it) ... didn't realise that the history screen would be affect in this way - sorry :(

This isn't a problem in CM4.

Any of you guys played a Japanese-made soccer management game called "Let's make J-League team" 1 or 2 (on PS2)? (rough translation from Japanese)

This game has an unbelievable 3-D match engine (a bit flawed but fabulous to look at - in terms of graphics it beats everyone else in the competition, including FIFA and even Winning IX).

Now if someone can combine this 3-D match engine and CM's management system, it would be the ultimate simulator.

hmmm.. I wonder if I can write a program like that.....

Does anyone remember a soccer-sim series called Goal/Goal94 by Wizard Games? They had a 2D match engine that wasn't all that bad, even though the ball could only travel horizontally, vertically, and diagonally and only in those exact angles. That and the players were represented by a exclamation point or dollar sign depending on their position. It wasn't all that bad to look at, pretty boring though, but if CM could make something just SLIGHLTLY better than that, then it's all good. I don't think a 3D match engine is really necessary - if we get one and expect to see a real soccer match, it probably disappoint us more than anything. At least we won't have a standard for 2D match-viewing that CM would have to strive for.

Chachi, I really have to disagree with you there. Of course, 3D match engine is not a necessity - it's not like you can't enjoy a good footie simulator without one, as in the case of CM - but, I believe it is much more enjoyable if 3D is included, not only in the visual aspect but also in playability.

For example, the quickness of a dribbling player can be conveyed to the gamer so much easier and clearer with 3D than with 2D, and infinitely better than with just textual descriptions like "xxx speeds past xxx" or with numeric attributes like "pace=4, quickness=3, dribbling=20". Numeric attributes and textual descriptions in the match engine are both not very intuitive to the gamer. With 2D, although it is very effective in showing the positions of the players at all times, on the other hand a lot of the nuances are lost (things such as how a player tackles another player, ball controll (trapping, wedging, etc), how a player shoots (is it a volley?), etc)

Of course, you can combine 2D with text, but who's going to look at both 2D AND text at the same time during a match?

This is an interesting subject to talk about. Any other guys want to throw your hat into the ring? Prove me wrong that seeing a real soccer match would be so much more enjoyable than CM's current 2D/text match engine.

Ian,

Since you're interested in how people play:

"Brazil" Tactic:

3-5-2, Attacking, Pressing, Hard Tackling.
Everyone has Cross Ball and Long Shots on, the two wingers and the attacking midfielder have forward arrows. LB and RB mark the strikers, DM marks the opposing AM or any CM that have arrows coming forward.

Not recommended for playing away games at Old Trafford, of course. :)

Also, while this has a ton of success with Arsenal, USA's national team, etc etc, I've had a lot of trouble with it in my 2009 Premiership season with Huddersfield Town. You need an excellent goalkeeper, D-mid, and center mid. If you have that, you should create enough chances and keep enough out so that you win most matches.

JRedknapp (if you're still reading this): 43 shots on net in one match is amazing...the most I've had was in the high 20s, and I think it was something like England 9-0 San Marino (I haven't been able to win by more than that...especially because I've never managed Australia).

Count me in with those PSYCHED for CM 4. My only problem is how to notify friends and family that I'll be missing for about six months!

I have also tried this but just made Serie A a European Super League, I also made it so that no team from Serie A could be religated so i would be able to keep my Super League in-tact.

My Teams Were.

Arsenal - Man Utd - Leeds

Inter - Milan - Lazio - Juventus

Valencia - Real Madrid - Barcelona

FC Bayern - Leverkusen - Dortmund

Celtic - Rangers

Ajax - PSV

Lyon

It is very difcult i must warn you. Every team loses atleat 10 times a year because of the quality in the league. and at the end of the season there are many play offs for teams that are on the same points.
