Question, I found a patch to enable the Israeli league for 00/01, but the instructions in the text file are apparently in Hebrew (unreadable to me at any rate), and the data.zip/data2.zip files aren't installing. Has anyone else tried this?

I have hit a wall, and can't manage to get around it, or through it, or...

After having taken York City all the way to the Premiership, and winning the UEFA Cup twice, the League Cup once, countless manager of the month awards, a world class rating etc etc... I still can't win the whole shebang. My teams score loads of goals, but always give up loads as well. Things will be great, and then some bottom feeder will beat me 4-1. I really don't know what I need to do.
Perseverance.

Just won the Premiership title after a 38 season gap since my previous success at it.

Because Ive only ever had shocking computers, ChampMan takes time loading for me. On average, a season takes me about a week, as I play about 3-4 hours on a good day.
The longest Ive ever played one game for is 5 seasons with Leeds on CM00-01.
The longest Ive ever sat at the computer for is 20 hours, when me and a friend played non-stop with him on Atletico Madrid and me on Betis.
I always spend time messing about though, checking on players all over the world, looking for 16yr-old foreigners that wouldnt show up on the search, so I can throw them into my training plan at an early age.
Another thing Ive started doing is actually watching the games. I used to have it on really fast and I actually learned to read what was going on, but now I have it on slow and appreciate the atmosphere through the speakers of the stereo.
One thing Ive never done is manage my reserves. Anyone do this?

Im interested in anyone else's CM stories, and the methods of playing they use.

question: how do you find players outside of the player search? because all of the "mythical" players people tell me about are nowhere to be found there.

Make sure you have the database set at the highest possible level. More players show up that way.

When I first started playing a couple years ago with CM 99/00 I tried to manage all my reserve team matches but it got really boring fast. Mostly cause I was Shrewsbury and all of my reserve players were crap... well actually all of my players were crap. But I did manage to get them into the first division... and then got fired the next season while fighting relegation. Bastards.

Anyone else notice how much easier CM 01/02 is then previous versions? It took me 4 years to get Rochdale into the Prem, and then only 5 seasons to get newly promoted Conference team Hampton and Richmond Borough into the Prem and only 2 more to qualify for the Champions League. I do have a good tactic that I always use but still....

what's your tactic??!!

I've only played the most current version so I can't really compare, but it's challenging enough for me.

I alway try to manage my reserves for a few months every season so i can get to know my squad and which ones will be good enough for the first team.

Another thing i do is sell anyone that is in my reserve team that is above 23. If there not good enough then they never will be. Comes in handy getting the extra cash aswell.

"Managing Reserves"
Did you know that selecting a player for the reserve team will 'force' the reserve team manager to use that player in the next reserve game.

Its a good half-way house between ignoring and managing them and allows you to give promising youngsters experience with managing all the reserve matches ...

Few things I find cool for finding the most random of random players.......

Go to a strange foreign team, sort by age, then go to age again, so the youngest tops the pile, then look through all the teams in the league using the aroow in the top left corner (thats brings up an alphabetical list of said teams).
This is also useful going through U-21 teams.
If theres a guy getting regular ball and he's 16, he's not much of a risk for £50k or whatever.

......just something I do.
It passes the time. hehee

Many of these players are youngsters in minor leagues and so are only present if that league is selected or you are playing using the 'large' database setting.

Finally reached the 100 season mark in my CM save today, celebrating with a European Championship for England. Starting off badly with a defeat to Malta, but finished runners-up to them in the group, progressing through to the final thanks to penalties. 1-0 Against Spain in the final.

Anyway, been several ups and downs over the years, starting at Hayes, then England, Windsor & Eton, Leeds and then back to England again. Actually, had it not being for a crash, several of which have occured, Brazil could be added to that list too. The games I played were lost, and I decided not to reapply for the job when available.

High point of the 100 years was in the early 2020's when I assembled what count's as my only truley great CM side (Carsten Radius GER, Eric Lievens BEL, Tony Carr ENG, Ruud Bos HOL, Marc Aerts HOL, Mario Cherubini ITA, Ross Miller ENG, Ramon Lasa ESP, Eddie Fletcher ENG, Fabrizio Mauro ITA, Fabrice Viseux FRA). Having previously gone so long without much success, it made a change, and largely responsible at the time for carrying on, through being tempted to start afresh.

Naturally the good times ended, eventually being sacked by Hayes, and despite at one point finishing a season without a win in 22 Conference games at Windsor, the real low point turned up in international management quite recently. Having failed to qualify for the World Cup, the European Championship qualfiers saw me start against San Marino. It went wrong.

Elsewhere, most surprising event would be either Man Utd struglging in the Conferece (they have got out), or Glenavon beating Real Madrid in the UEFA Cup final.

awesome to hear...but how do you pass through so many seasons so quickly???

Anyone else with some synopses of their long histories???

Finally, Luan, your manager must be in some kind of good health ;)

No I'm afraid not - if I did this for one person then I'd have to do it for everyone ....

"Will the Mac version of CM4 be released at the same time as the PC version? "
This is largely beyond my control as I simply help make the game, its up to individual publishers when they release it. I expect the release date to be fairly similar to the one for the PC though because we've been developing them side by side using just one code base.
