"but in your honest opinion...is it any good?"
Heh - if my honest and totally unbiased opinion it is (cough) ;)

Seriously though - yes I think its good value for money, it's got a 20 page feature on CM4 and some good articles on more 'general' football stuff (interviews with future stars, an article on Wimbledon AFC etc.) and a small article on our forthcoming Hockey management game.

The cover CD's got a load of stuff on it as well, including a data update for CM01-02 which apart from simply updating the data for the current season includes an extra league for people to play in (Korea, thanks for asking).

Much of the information and all of the cover CD data is going to be available for download from sigames.com though so its entirely up to you if you want the magazine or simply want to download the info from the net.

Perhaps you could include things like "player deaths" only in fake players mode. That way nobody will be upset since the player is imaginary.

There's an old novel that I'm reminded of here, about a man who plays an old-time baseball sim game (pen-paper-dice). Basically, his life starts to revolve around the game, which gets real interesting when a young star player is killed by a pitch to the head. Sadly, I can't recall the name or author, it was many years ago that I read it from a library.

Also, I suppose I should mention my game details. Playing 00/01, I started with a slightly tweaked Forest Green (raised the support and stadium size a bit, and gave them a little more money). Took about 8 years to escape the Conference (and a 1mil debt!), plus I actually had to win it twice, the first time my stadium had deteriorated and we were denied promotion. The board finally ponied up for improvements in time to make it the next year.

After that, it's been all gravy. 2nd my first year in Division 3 (and cleared the debt), a midtable finish the next season, and finally another 2nd in 11/12 (despite me trying to throw the last few games so I could play some money-making playoffs :) ).

I also played a 2nd manager during this game. Started with Colorado, was building a strong squad when I fell victim to the MLS Crazy Chairman Factor. Went to a bankrupt lower division Portugese side for a few months, then bolted when Athiniakos(?) came available. Had about 1 1/2 seasons of 2nd division midtable boredom there, before Aris Solonika came calling. More midtable boredom, though 1st division at least, then I went mad and bolted for Augsberg (German Regionaliga). And...you guessed it, yet more midtable boredom. Until I got the sack in 11/12. Applied for a couple lower division Italian clubs, but was passed up, and finally retired and started a new manager to take one by force. :D

Forgot to mention, I'm wedded to the 3-5-2 'diamond' formation. Though I suppose given how my 2nd manager fared, I suppose I should use that one to test others. Haven't been able to figure out the tactics screen for setting runs though, clicking On Ball or Off The Ball seems to produce a u-10esque scrum.

Has anyone else found their CM just turning itself off?

I think it might have something to do with my Virtual Memory, but whenever its running, its always the only thing on. If I forget to put the Auto-Save deal on, I sometimes loose loads of stuff.

2 good months with Sunderland recently.

This isnt a complaint or anything, I dont know much about computers so if anyone can help me out..........

I've had problems a bit like that. When I play a game with sound FX on, it seems as though there is about a 1 in 3 chance that the game will just shut down in the middle of a match. This can be immensely frustrating when you are just about to scrape a lucky but vital win, or if you have just had a great run of results but haven't been saving, as I'm sure you know. As for a solution though, no idea.

I notice you've been playing as Sunderland. Nice one.

The book is "The Universal Baseball Association, Inc., J. Henry Waugh, Prop." by Robert Coover. Highly Recommended.

I don't suppose there's a 'noCD' patch anywhere for 00/01? I couldn't find one, my drive is going wonky, and I think it's slowly killing the CD in the process.

Usually happens to me when I click continue. Theres this other thing where it notifies me of somehting like 'human.manager v1.06' or something, and the last bit of news I have doesnt register as new. Not a big deal, but a bit annoying.

I was Sunderland for a bit, until it kicked my head in. I'd played 3 games, signed Landon Donovan on a Free (coz my update buggered up his loan contract and he was on the free transfer list) and I was just about to start the season. I started a new one with Everton. Doing pretty good. 4th with 8 games of the first season left.

Donovan - Games 28(1) Goals 33

There most definitely is a noCD patch for 00/01. I found it just by searching on Google.

Where can you buy CM 4 online, when it becomes available?
Thanks

By the way ... there's a data update for CM01-02 (which also places an extra league into the game, the Korean league) will be available from sigames.com on thursday (we're also posting screenshots of CM4 work in progress on the site that day).
