Is the lack of a roof the reason why it never gets awarded a European final ?
Champions League Final 2006(Paris)
Champions League Final 2007(Athens)
UEFA Cup Final 2006(Eindhoven)
UEFA Cup Final 2007(Glasgow)
The Velodrome has 60,000 seats which is enough to host a final. The stadium in Eindhoven by the way only has 32,000 seats. Also the weather in Marseille and in the south of France is great. Great place for supporters of the 2 teams in the final to travel to. Also the team that plays in Marseille and in the Velodrome is well supported. So why can't Marseille get to host a European final then ??? It has to be because the Velodrome doesnt have a roof that has to be the only logical reason why they are never awarded one. The Velodrome was renovated in 1998 that was 7 years ago 7 years to have a chance to get a European final but passed over every time. When they expand to 80,000 seats and add a roof they HAVE TO be awarded a European Final but I think the Velodrome is good enough to get one now.

i've only been there twice, and that was before the renovation. frankly, it was a s***hole (so was gerland at the same period admittedly). i don't believe the "renovation" was much more than getting the place up to safety standards.
but i've seen presentations of the new vélo... it will be magnificent!

It was more than just getting it up to saftey standards. They increased seating capacity from 42,000 to 60,000 and they added quite a few luxury boxes.

Sportboy, Sportboy. You are forgetting one thing my friend.
Marseille is a s****t-hole.
lol. :D
Just kidding, my little Marseille friends. ;)
I kinda expected France to get a European final, and I did expect Marseille to get it - bit of a shock that one.

It has to be because the Velodrome has no roof I mean thats the only logical reason why Marseille has never hosted a European final. Even Lyon and Strasbourg have hosted European finals, the old Cup Winners Cup.

When does rain in Marseille in the end of May?
There is no roof on 2 of the stands in the Ataturk this year.....

I remember that someone in Nice wanted to build a 40,000 seat stadium so they could attract a European final and some people said 40,000 was too small for that. Now I see they gave Eindhoven the UEFA Cup final and that stadium has only 32,000 seats so now its clear that Nice could have gotten the UEFA Cup final had that plan for the 40,000 seat stadium gone through.

I think PSV's stadium is getting an increase in capacity next season.

Well they gave to to some place in Sweden last year and their stadium only had 43,000 seats I think. Sweden gets a UEFA Cup final before Marseille, France ?! WOW that is criminal.

Due to the rugby world cup 2007, the vélo capacity will be pushed to 80 000 covered seats soon.
