Alessandro Nesta. And I think most fans who consistently watch the top leagues will agree.

ummm...niko kovac is a midfielder, i think you mean his brother robert.
Also, where in the blue hell is Terry, (no pun intended), the real greatest defender in the world at the moment.

No Terry = joke thread... but Nesta is still #1; after him Terry is the best pure defender, while Ferdinand is the most technically/athletically gifted CB.

No Cannavaro,no Thuram,no Terry,no Ayala,no Zanetti,no Zambrotta, to name a few absentees=joke poll.However I 've always considered Ayala the greatest although since I rarely see him play nowadays due to his injuries and the lack of Valencia coverage I'll go with Nesta.
By the way, what on Earth is Hypia doing on this poll?

My vote goes for Nesta and then Terry.
After that I rate Cannavaro, Ferdinand, Ayala, and Puyol very highly.

Why is Carragher on the worlds best? He has had a good season but still is behind Ferdinand,Terry, ArseSOl and King for England.

No way Cannavaro is top 5 in the world. Off the top of my head, Rio, Sol, Gallas, Puyol, Chivu are all better.
