The NY Press is a free give-away paper that you find in fast food places and the like. It runs on the basis of a lot of sleazy advertisements that other papers won't publish. It gives wannabe writers a chance to showcase their skills for little or no compensation.

The article about the Metros paints the true depressing picture of the franchise. However it did not mention that the game was played on Friday instead of the usual Saturday due to the Jewish holiday of Passover. It also unfairly mocked Nick's beer meeting with the fans.

With the Metros franchise going the way it has been going, and with the proposed SSS stalemated, I have to wonder whether the Metros will soon be the San Antonio Stars. And if that happens, I have to wonder how well MLS will handle the loss of NYC as it keeps striving for recognition.

Revs are just kicking butt this season..... Good to see a team not afraid of playing on the road.... i just feel bad for those who made up those "power rankings".... I was wondering how in the world Wahl had the Fire at third spot... I'm not usually one to care for these things, but it did look totally odd considering how the Fire had gotten the win over the MEtros.... Or maybe i don't get the "power ranking" concept.... it's not like i've tried figuring out what exactly is supposed to mean.....

Metros seems like a dying franchise...

Interesting thing about the article in the Collegiate Times at Virginia Tech is that the author plays soccer there. Starts at right back, assuming that there are not two guys with that same name on campus. I guess he's playing soccer at Tech only for the love of the game-it likely has nothing to do with having a scholarship or anything.

From the Sun-Times:

"We're not interested in the Fire. They suck," he said.

I know this is kind of a slap at the league as a whole, but I still feel it would make a good sig line for the Dallas forum,

"We're not interested in the Fire. They suck," he said. "Poland's going to lose, but we're here to support them, anyway."

Nothing like the rosy outlook of the youth eh?

Neither team brought it’s A squad to the game....

Poland had far less offensive chances...

I'm dismayed that I share a language with this guy.

Is it possible that our English teachers in this country just aren't very good, or are American kids just this stupid that they grow up to be stupid sportswriters?

The Northwest Herald article says Zach Thornton got on Taylor Twellman for scoring the 3rd goal, and Twellman apologized and didn't intend to rub it in. I'm dismayed by this attitude - I want to see the offenses working and goals scored. Twellman should never apologize for scoring a goal - that's his job.

I read both articles about the RSL reserve match against BYU - both papers obviously sent reporters to cover the game, as the content differed in each. That's pretty impressive coverage for a reserve match, even against a regional USL team.

Jim did warn you. Fire fans are familiar with his work. Alas.

One has to wonder about his editor, too, though.

I disagree. Twellman should apologise, and not just to Thornton but to all the rest of us. Better yet he should not take that shot in the first place. It was a selfish act.
The "right" play in that situation is to take the ball into the corner and run out the clock. If you say, "No, the point is to always try to score as much as possible", well then fine, there was a WIDE OPEN revs player on his left staring at an open goalmouth as TT fought through two defenders. It was a selfish act by Twellman, who elected not only to pile on the score but further to do it himself for the self-aggrandizing reason of wanting to get his 50th career goal.

Ohh please

I wouldve done the same and expected anyother professional player to do the same. This is the pros not little league.... Get over it.

Why doesnt Zach demand an apology from his teamates who stunk up the joint the whole night?

I must agree, If the Fire have a problem with it all they have to do next time is give TT a hard foul and then beat the revs on the scoreboard.

Talk about 'how the mighty have fallen':

DC whinning about Dempsey dives.

Chicago whinning about a Twellman stoppage time goal.

Remember when your teams were the ones that kicked ass and took names?

Are you kidding?

He got the ball at midfield, megged a defender, drove to the goal and his defender let him get deep in the box with out closing his angle. He effortlessly pounded the ball past Thornton. What does that tell you?

If anything, the defender overplayed Taylor's passing option. It would be a Goal of the Year candidate otherwise.

And Thorton wasn't bitching about the goal. He was bitching about getting spanked, while Twellman was obviously delighted and trying to get his hands on the game ball after his 50th MLS goal. Rightly so.

I know I was delighted, because it seemed the level of play was dropping faster the more Mexico/Poland fans took their seats. Twellman showed them something special.
