Think of the security issues if LIBYA wins the 2010 World Cup bid and the USA makes it to the latter stages of the tournament!

Its amazing how people are looking for reasons not to share the wealth. Africa will be ready by 2010; and if not, someone will fill in at the first sign of trouble ('86 was supposed to be in Colombia was it not?). Its not a dumb idea at all.
This isn't about sharing the wealth. This is about having a country host the world cup. The debate at hand is whether the world cup should be spread about "evenly" or hosted by countries based on their merit. First off, I believe that up until now an unofficial system of rotation existed. Everyone wants the world cup to be hosted everywhere. That's why you didn't see Western Europe host it time after time after time. However, the problem is that not one single country in Africa is cable of hosting the world cup based upon merit except maybe, just maybe South Africa. And even at that there are still issues with stadiums, etc. The idea that a country like Nigeria is ready to host the world cup is a joke. I'm not saying this because I dislike Nigeria. I'm saying it because by modern standards Nigeria is a hugely diverse country that is barely holding together and is a country that simply does not have the resources even with all of it's oil wealth to build, coordinate, manage, and run a successful World Cup. They do not have a single stadium at this time up to WC standards let alone 10 of them. And they're not going to be able to build them in time, either. Look at South Korea. Here is a wealthy country (higher GDP per capita than the Netherlands, for example) that was barely able to put together all the necessary infrastructure in time. And look at Greece. They're relatively poor by EU standards. HOwever, they're gdp per capita is roughly 18 times greater than that of Nigeria. Greece is struggling to finish up all the promised infastructure for the olympics. How could Nigeria afford ever build or fix up 10 stadiums that would even approach WC standards? What are we talking? Spending $25 million per stadium? $50 million? $200 million? We've seen how much Japan , France, and South Korea have all spent on stadiums alone. There isn't an Arican country around that could afford to do that. I even question if South Africa could afford it. Despite being the richest country in africa their GDP is still below 10k per capita.

Man, please quit ur ranting. I will name two stadia in Nigeria that are up to world cup standard. The National Stadium in Lagos and the new one just being completed in Abuja. I wont even bother reading the rest of ur post.

I think the issue with some African countries is not their standard of living but the security risk. You only have to look at the Cricket World Cup that is on in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya at the moment. England is refusing to play in Zimbabwe and New Zealand is refusing to play in Kenya. Australia has serious concerns about playing their games in Zimbabwe. The last thing FIFA need is countries refusing to play games because of security concerns. No countries at the Cricket World Cup have refused to play any games in South Africa.

But how many Eastern European countries are bidding to host the World Cup?

Its Africa's turn to host in 2010, not Eastern Europe

It is a done deal IMHO, South Africa is going to host it.
Nigeria? Bwahahahahahahhaahhahaah. Starting riots over a beauty pageant?
There's no other country stable enough to host it except for perhaps Morocco. Even then I doubt the have adequate security.
