When Ireland and Scotland play in the 6 Nations, there's such a jovial atmosphere. Why do the Football Fans from both Countries see Ireland V Scotland as an extension of Celtic V Rangers?

I don't think anyone sees Celtic v Rangers as Ireland v Scotland, more like Ireland v Britain.
But anyway, egg-chasers are a different type, they speak strange and are mainly from the east. I can't say I know many. Although I do know a Scotland U21 international.

I've wondered about this topic in a wider expanse. When 2 countries play football, their fans attack each other. When 2 countries play rugby, their fans party with one another. Why is this?

Here's a funny little quote I got off somebody some years back, it doesn't really answer your question but it's just a nice little bit of food for thought.
"Football is a gentleman's game played by pikeys; meanwhile rugby is a pikey's game played by gentlemen."

Well, it does make sense :)

I wasn't singling out Scotland. I was saying on the whole.... we always hear about football hooligans, but I never hear about rugby hooligans. Do they exist, or is it just not reported because it isn't as glamorous as football hooliganism is?

Rugby just does not attract as broad a spectrum of people as Football does. Especially in Scotland.

Not so much the broad spectrum range, as opposite ends :-), rugby tends to be played by the better off in Scotland with, it seems to me, a much healthier outlook on what sport should be about.

Of course it also has to be brought into account that the Irish and Scottish fans have absolutely top notch, sparkling reputations when they travel abroad - I might be wrong, but I have never heard of any sectarian violence when the Scots go abroad, and our fans got voted thebest of Japorea, and never get into trouble. This really is a bizarre thread.

:-d
Bizarre's ok, love the Irish fans, we get to see a lot of them at Celtic Park, and even more soon as Eire play us in Glasgow....should be a good night.
The tartan army brings a smile back into football too, that's what it should be about...enjoying yourself, I love following Celtic abroad and having a party with the locals, one of the non footballing reasons why this is the "Beautiful game"

Just use :-) without the '-' in the middle ofr :), or :-D without the dash again for :D, or : rolleyes : without the spacebar between the colons & the 'rolleyes' for . There are a good few more that I don't know how to dom, but there is a list of them when you go to 'post reply' or 'quote' as opposed 'quick reply'.
*Just don't use 'rolleyes' within brackets with no spacebar, or you will come out with this - () - and as it will probably be during a serious argument, wind up looking a bit stupid, I learned that one the hard way.
