Just out of curiosity I was wondering how many / which teams are left that do not use sponsors on their jersey.
So far I've thought of Athletic Bilbao, some MLS teams, C.D. Guadalajara, Corinthians, and F.C. Barcelona. Any others?

Barcelona will have a shirt sponsor next year. The sponsor will be the chinese governement, they will advertise tourism in china and the olympic games 2008.

Great.
Almost every national team is sponsorless, the only exception I can think of is Ireland. This thread is about club teams.

When a team has a shirtsponsor it means it has an ad on their jersey. e.g Real has Siemensmobile:

Barcelona has nothing (yet)

Nike and Adidas are just shirt manufacturers (they also pay the team for it), every team has a shirt manufacturer, even Iran.

Can't see the fuss about Barca and their shirts. It will mean a lot more money that can be spent on better players. Everyone else is cashing in and getting rich, so Barca have been missing out on money. If you don't like it, overthrow capitalism.
Anyway, who was the first team in Britain (and maybe the world) to have a shirt sponsor ?. The answer will come soon.

Rotor Volgograd. They've always had their own name across the front of their jerseys.

That doesn't count.
I can't be bothered to keep people guessing. The answer was Kettering Town, around 1980. And you all expected a glory team.

I'm not a Barca fan, but from what little I've read on the subject, I think that part of the fuss is that supposedly they pride themselves as being above it (I don't mean for that to sound disaparaging), not needing to brand their club with anything other than the team colors. As far as overthrowing capitalism -- again, I'm not an expert, but you may have something here -- don't they also have a following from those who support a socailist Basque independence from Spain? My point is that I think Barca has an angle among their following that relish their alternative position, that they are a club "of the people", as oposed to Madrid's royal image, etc etc . . .
Now, that's just what I've read about -- does anybody know if these perceptions are accurate?

Wrong. Wrong. Both have had sponsors on their shirts and still do...
