I like and respect Steve Davis, but I think he's got it backwards about the new UEFA rules and their effect on North/South American talent.

With the new rules, MORE young players will want to go to the academies in Europe because players from those academies will be guaranteed a certain number of spots on the team, or in the league. That's not the case now.

Also, this is a way around the % of national team games/work permit thing for the Premiership. Now, a young US player without an EU passport looking to play in the Premiership has to play well in MLS, catch Bruce's eye, play frequently on the Nats, THEN try for the Premiership. Not so in the near future.

While I think you are right about Steve Davis' misinterpretation of the Homegrown rule....how does this change the work permit rules?

What a fabulous business decision to play this game in Chicago. It's on the level of Home Depot sponsoring the HDC.
