yesterday lavolpe says that his priority for 2005 and specially for the summer is to have the main players for the 2 qualifiers to WC

then all the main players will take a small vacation time off soccer (as the finals in mexie liga ends), that vacation time coincides with gold CUP

It looks like they are not going to defend the cup they earned in mexico city last time!

2nd priority for Lavolpe: the confederation cup, on his words " we will be playing germany and brazil"

It's tough to have the Confederations Cup and the Gold Cup in the same summer, as the US did in 2003. It's bound to be even tougher when you have those two plus a couple of World Cup qualifiers in the same period.

With World Cup qualifiers on June 4th & 8th (and a camp to begin a few days before), the Confederations Cup running (for Mexico) from June 16th to potentially June 29th, then the Gold Cup beginning (for Mexico) on July 8th and going potentially to July 24th, that's almost two months straight of national team action.

It doesn't seem practical to keep the same team together for two months, so it simply makes sense to give some players some of the time off while calling in others.

Lets be honest, this cups are washed up. Brazil though takes advantage of this cups by immediately throwing in their top prospects for experience. Something I hope to see from my US Nats when they play in the gold cup. Mexico on the other hand ALWAYS has to send nearly Full starting squads to this events. Maybe now that Lavolpe has had every kind of rocks thrown at him now he can coach and build this Mexican team for the present and see what the future holds. I dont know when was the last time I ever saw some of their top young guys start and get consistent time in a CopaConfed,Copa America or Oro.
I know Mexicans always want to win every cup no matter what, but what sounds better. Having a young team lose but matching up par to par vs a Young Brazilian,Arg,German,French etc or winning with more than half your regulars vs an obvious C teams.

Hmmm, so they would be playing the Gold Cup around the same time as the tournament they are in because they won the last Gold Cup. Also, Confederations Cup is a priority, over the tournament that would qualify them for the next one.

I thought the 2005 Confederations Cup would be last one ever.

mmmmmmm I dont think I named any players nor did I ever say Mexico sends A teams to this washed up cups. I said "mostly" regulars. Learn to read plz.

The fact is they ALWAYS send more regulars than other countries do to this cups.

I don't know I recall a pretty full squad US vs Brazil the last time around...

And I also recall Mexico getting in trouble with CONCACAF for sending a secondary team to the Gold Cup the year before that.

From now on it will only be every four years, the year before the World Cup.

That is true even their Confiderations Cup team that finished dead last in their group had many USMNT regulars.

Funny thing is so do I. IN fact it was for sending B teams to the 2002 and 2000 Gold Cups.
