Eduardo Galeano, the Uruguayan writer once said: "El que no conoce la tristeza del futbol, no conoce la tristeza en su entera dimension."

I think I have never had a football down as bad as the day that Argentina tied us in Bs As for the WCQ86. After being down 1-0, we had turned things around, playing some of the most superb football I've seen. Focking Cueto was simply of another dimension.

With 5 minutes to go ... Argentina tied us with a focked up goal from Gareca (sp?) I never thought we would get tied. Not even in my wildest dreams. That day was created to give us a satisfaction.

Less heartbroken was I when Chile run over us for the WCQ98 ... the 4-0 in Santiago. At least there we were really far from getting the result. NEvertheless it hurt as hell, coming from who it came, and with that ****** Salas shouting one of the goals on Ibanez face.

And you guys?

In my short life, I'd when Peru had the chance to go to France 98 and we were to play Chile.... A tie would have given us a great chance, as back then we actually did not surrender that many points at home...... But waht happened was just bad....

Cuto? How about Maestri.... Every time someone tells me he is a forward, i gotta laugh..... It's so patently not true :)

That mendoza schitt, when I just think about it. I dont really think we'll be seeing him callled to the NT now with a new coach. Maybe for the bench, a big maybe.

Same here.

When Mendoza missed that goal the entire restaurant I was at gave out the most horrible, pain-filled "Noooooo!!" cries you've ever heard. It was like watching a relative get run over by a truck before your very eyes and not being able to do anything about it. Incredible.

For the next few days I was truly in a sh!t mood, didn't want to go to school, nothing.

Lol, we should all get together and sue Mendoza for psychological damages after that one.

For me the worst moment was Peru2-Argentina2, June 30th 1985. After '78 and '82 I thought we were supposed to go to the World Cup every time. It was kind of like the Yankess and Arizona in '01 DAMN LUIS GONZALEZ!!!. Anyway, I asked my father and he says it was the 0-6 against Argentina in '78...

Peru 2 - Ecuador 2 :(

I was going to mention that, but since its the most recent I didnt think so.

What about just the decline of Peruvian soccer after the 82WC. That's just plain heartbreaking.

I already mentioned this somewhere:

When Delgado scored the heartbreaker second goal on us en el Monumental for Ecuador's 2-1 win that sealed our fate for '02 WC...

1-2 in Lima against ecuador.

I hadn't cried before that in a long long time (and a game never made me cry before this one)... and in the process I broke my father's car's steering wheel on the way home.

I couldn't watch or talk about futbol for about 3 months after that game.

the one i remember the most is the 4-0 demoliton chile gave us

we actually had the upper hand on the table if i recall correctly after this game(the second to last) chile overtook us

we basically had to beat bolivia something like 16-0 to go to the bloody world cup

back to the game, it was summed up when flavio hit the posts twice in a row in the space of a few seconds after that point we went downhill and chile ran all over us

it also pisses me off how we were treated before the match, of course we behaved just as badly when they payed us a visit in the korea/japan qualifiers

btw vipnerd, i believe balerio was the keeper not ibanes

none of the games since then compare to that heartbreak we were so damm close to the big event

chorri was amazing in those qualifiers

we didn't go that WC not because we didn't win away in Chile, but because we couldn't beat Ecuador afterwards IN LIMA.

because it was after the chile game and we played at home. I was like this last time we scored first (by pizarro) and then they scored twice :( 2-1 final

Most of the hearbreaks are pretty recent actually.

1) The Last Copa America. Being at home I expected better results but Peru really does play horrible at home now.

2) These qualifiers. Many moments:

The tie against Venezuela at home. I went to watch the game at a Latin Bar, and I think I was never so pissed off at a soccer game in my life. I mean it's freekin Venezuela!! and we couldn't score one damn goal! Besides, Peru played horrible, they keept booting the ball to the forwards, not playing the ball on the ground like Peru usually plays and know how to play.

The loss to Colombia at home. They beat us 2-0, and at home, simply unacceptable.

The loss to Argentina at home. I still think home should mean win and at the very least a tie if the team you play totally outplays you. Being at home even if you suck you should at least tie by playing with your heart and balls.

Finally, the tie to Ecuador this past qualifying match. Ecuador is really getting on my nerves, they eliminated us last qualifiers (since they beat us at home) and now they tie us when we desperately needed a win. Sure Mendoza screwed up, but honestly it's the whole team's fault and the coach's to even be in that situation when you are at home and clearly have a superior squad.

Conclusion, I think Peru shouldn't play at home again!!! Send them to some Central American country or something so they don't keep screwing up when it counts! argh, now I need to listen to music to calm down....
