For some reason my internet is just absolutely crawling right now. When helping out with this thread I usually try to be pretty thorough, unfortuantely I'm sure there's more that I just can't get to.

Typical whiny ************.
You know what? First game in team history. WTF did you expect? Checketts is right - you should get to that event earlier. When the hell did the guy show up? 10 minutes before the game?

He's thinking, "It's just another game," and didn't know any better. Sounds like he didn't learn. It's another world, handsome, get used to it.

Before we lynch the guy - can any RSL fans who have attended other events at that venue comment on whether how bad it was or was not?
I mean if the guy went to other events and waltzed right in maybe the guy has a point and RSL should have been better equiped to handle the crowd.

7,000+ was the problem :D ...that is the number of walk-ups for the first game in RSL history. For the 2 weeks before the home-opener/inaugural game, RSL was on every possible media source telling people to come early if they expected to walk-up, or, even better, to purchase tickets before the day of the game. Rice Eccles only has so many ticket outlets and RSL could only afford to hire so many of the U of U employees to staff the outlets...
In short...this whiny little person did not bother to use common sense and got caught waiting for a long time to get in the game...tough...next time he will not wait.

I wasn't at the Salt Lake game and have never been to an event in Utah but I applaud the editorial.
First of all, just being the subject of an editorial is a major sign of progress.
Second, it's high time MLS stopped getting a free pass for screwing up its customer service.
As the old cliche goes, you get one chance to make a first impression and RSL should have made damn sure they had enough staff on hand to make sure things went smoothely and that folks didn't have to wait too long. The fact that Checketts admitted RSL was at fault is progress but if he's saying "my bad" it's pretty much a green-light to criticize his organization for not having it together at the opener.
And, not offering anything to compensate those who missed part of the game because of the team's failure to having things running smoothly is also fair game for criticism.

Since when do MLS teams get a free pass for their level of customer service? Seems to me I've heard people bitch and complain about just about every possible thing under the sun in terms of customer service. These are often the 'I've been here since Day One, but...' crowd.

Just to add. I love when people on here complaina bout walk up lines being too long. Usually there's some contrived excuse as to why they 'couldn't' buy a ticket before hand, or they like the luxory of not buying a ticket before hand. Tough. If the game's so important to you that you don't want to wait to get into it then buy a ticket before hand like every other sporting event in America. Bitching about walk up lines is the epitome of selfishness.

And how do you distinguish those that deserve compensation to those that don't after the fact....or even during the fact?

DCU front office gets a free pass a lot. Since you're a revs fan you may not notice all of the positive spin front offices get outside of Metro and Revland. Most folks are pretty jaded (rightfully so) over there already ;) .

If you plan on buying walk-up tickets to an event that holds more than 5,000 people you better be ready for problems. If you do, you had at least better get there early. I mean through Ticketmaster you can buy a ticket to most anything and have it downloaded within 10 minutes. If MLS doesn't do this, that's a problem. If they do, well some of the fans are poo poo heads.

DCU front office gets a free pass a lot. DCU deserves a free pass, because all the suckiness comes from DCSEC. The fact that you can bring food to Nats games, that ushers at Nats games are written up in the Post for how 'polite' they are, and the fact that none of this even remotely resembles anything ever experienced at a United game, are all beyond DCU's control.
