Actually, I did find this little gem from a, shall we say, sophisticated reader in Alabama as a letter to the editor about soccer.

Yes...I mean, soccer really is the only sport that has a physcial impact on its participants. I mean, when was the last time you heard of an injury in ice hockey or American football?

I have been hoping that all the free goodies San Antonio has been offering (5 years rent-free in Alamodome) are accepted only as a temporary solution, and while they're being enjoyed plans for a real stadium get worked on.

Accepting to play in a stadium as big as Alamodome as a long term strategy would be a mistake.

Half my family is from Alabama. I'm lucky enough not to live there. I can't stop laughing at the "we're too advanced of a society" bit.

I would love to know if this guy is a NASCAR fan. Last time I checked David Beckham didn't get killed in injury time of a game. I like NASCAR myself but I'm not dumb enough to start throwing stones at other sports for being "dangerous". Three drivers (out of about 50 or 60 that made races) died on the Winston Cup circuit within 12 months back in 2000-2001. Getting hit with a soccer ball in the pills 5 times a day is safer than being a stock car driver.

Why do the people that live around me act so dumb?!?!

Warren Buffet lived and got his MBA from here. I could make a list of bright people from my state that could debate with the brightest minds in the country. My city, Huntsville, for example: 1 out of every 12 people is an engineer. Alabama has the keen stereotype of the dumb redneck because there are so many of them out in the sticks away from the population centers. What a pity. There are 'dum' people here, but my god there are just as many per capita in other states too. As for the article, complete and utter rubbish. Guys like that chap my back side.

Damn no edit function! That should read:

The View - The Fame Game (Greg Lalas on MLSNet.com) (http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20050420&content_id=27262&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp).

But there's something wistful in (Ramos, Harkes & Balboa's) election to the Hall of Fame, just as there was when Paul Caligiuri and Eric Wynalda were inducted last year. This marks another inch forward toward the end of an era I like to call the Postmodern Era of U.S. soccer. This is my English degree rearing it's ugly head: Joe Gaetjens and the game of their lives belonged to the Romantic Era; Chinaglia, the Cosmos, and the NASL to the Modern Era; and the boys of '94 to the Postmodern Era.

I'm amazed someone has an English degree and yet can't tell when to use "its" and when to use "it's."
