Hey,
I know I am the biggest proponent of less threads BUT I just got back from seeing "The Game of Their Lives". I am up in North Jersey and found a theater showing it up here. Check their website for a theater near you. http://www.gameoftheirlivesmovie.com/

It's F'N good. Really, really well done. Well worth seeing. For those that don't know, it's about the US World Cup team in 1950 that shocked England 1-0. Incredible upset, incredible movie. The movie theatre I was at, people started cheering after the US scored. It was brilliant. Great movie, highly recommend it. I liked most that the actors they chose, could actually play the game. The movie seemed realistic, all the clothing and materials looked authentic, they played with a brown "blob" of a ball. Just an excellent movie. I know it'll pain Clan, Dr I and the other Brits who will probably try to discredit the US' win but it really is a good movie. It's not totally "RaaaaRaaaa USA either". It's just a good soccer movie. Even my girlfriend liked it. Anyways, my plugs for the movie are over, I just wanted to recommend it to EVERYONE.

I've been meaning to check this one out. The reviews are very so-so, but the acarcity of good soccer movies in this country means I'll probably enjoy it by default. I hear the soccer scenes are very well-done, but some of the plot points are a bit contrived. Unfortunately there are only like three theaters in all of Chicagoland showing it.

Watched it at the Lincolnshire here in north suburban chicago. It wasn't bad. Wasn't great either though. I enjoyed it but I could see why someone who isn't a soccer nut would be somewhat dissapointed. It really reminded me a lot of a very well done after-school special. Believe me I wanted to report that it was INCREDIBLE but it was just ok for me.

Good soccer action scenes.....terrible dialogue and acting, that pretty much sums up the movie.

For the soccer scenes, though they were not bad, didn't you guys get the feel that they really condensed things? I mean everything was tight, the fields looked small even.

I'm waiting on "Kicking and Screaming." It may not have the dramatic value of "Game of Their Lives," but Will Farrell is effin hilarious.

Film snubs Scots World Cup hero

"A Scots footballer's famous achievement in leading the USA to victory over England in the 1950 World Cup has been ignored in a new American movie." http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4482901.stm

DISGUSTING

Cheer up Teso. We cut Scots out of all movies.

EDIT: Braveheart was your token film.

Believe it or not, I actually knew that. Being as Bahr and McIlvenny both were from Philly.

The soccer scenes were superb, it was because they actually got actor who can play a bit.

The one thing that really pissed me off was that they did go into the decision to let Gajaens (sp) play. Even if we were mostly an amateur side. All the movie had was that the manager said no, the players disagreed and got him. I really thought that focusing on that part of the story was important. It was a pretty radical decision in 1950 to let a black play for the US. I mean this was only 3 years after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in baseball. Hell, it took another 15 years for blacks to get full rights to VOTE in this country. Think about that. They really should have covered it more.

I'm sure I'll go see it but Grant Wahl didn't give it a very good review. He says it was too Disneyesque and inaccurate in some areas with no real need for it.

Yeah, sometimes they have to do that for a bit of dramatic effect, but Wahl felt they went too far. *shrug*

Yeah, I was surprised that my girlfriend liked it too.

It was a bit Disney-ish but was still good. I think if you liked Miracle, you'll like Game of Their Lives.
