Yeah i agree, although we were left with quite some trauma after that match, it was a very exciting match with the worlds best attacking style teams against eachother

1954 World Cup Semi-Final - Uruguay 2 Hungary 4 (aet).

On top of the quality on show it was a battle of two unbeaten sides - Hungary had gone without defeat for 4 years, Uruguay had never lost a game at the World Cup. Both sides were missing their captains (Varela & Puskas) but still put on the finest show of football I've ever seen and the talent on show was simply awesome - Kocsis, Hidegkuti, Czibor, Bozsik, Schiaffino, Andrade, Santamaria. Gyula Mandi, the Hungarian manager said afterwards "We have just beaten the best team we have ever met"

Out of curiosity, where did you get a tape of that match? How was the quality of the footage?

I've got about 50 minutes of the game on video, given to me by a friend some years ago. The quality is by no means the best, but is still watchable. Not sure where my friend got it from, but it is avaialable here: http://members.aol.com/Olafthon1/Fussball.html

I don't know if I would say that it was the best game ever but one game that immediately springs to mind was the Spain - Yugoslavia Euro 2000 final group match. That was probably one of the most fascinating games I've seen where Spain had to win, were 3-2 down in injury time and then scored twice in just a couple of seconds to win 4-3 and send both teams through due to results elsewhere. That was pretty cool.

Great game. I'll also remember when they switched to the Norway/Slovenia game and you saw the look on Tore Andre Flo's face when he was told that Spain scored two goals in injury time.

West Germany vs France WC 1982

The game was a 6-goal thriller with both sides trading lead. Fischer's bicycle kick remained one of the best goals in WC history. France also scored two great goals. Then, you got Rummenigge who came off the bench to lead one of the greatest comeback in WC history. But no one would remember that. People tended to remember Schumacher's brutal foul on Bastista. It must be the worst foul in WC history. Of course, the game was the 1st ever penalty shootout in WC finals. On top of that, the game lasted for 120 minutes.

England's absence during the '94 World Cup led me to look elsewhere. I recall being quite taken with Hagi of Romania & Bulgaria's skipper Stoichkov, it's for this reason I have strong recollection of the Bulgarians knocking out defending champions Germany.

After finding themselves a goal behind they fought back with a trademark Stoichkov free-kick followed by a delightful header from their balding midfielder Letchkov.

Nigeria/Spain WC 1998, to me this was the best match of the tournament. This was one of my favourite WC matches as a neutral oberserver rooting for no one in particular in this match. A great goal by Raul, but Spain was celebrating too early.

What a screamer by Sunday Oliseh!!!!

I have a real soft spot for Norway-Brazil in 1998, particularly the phantom Flo foul that gave Norway the PK for the win. I wouldn't call it the "best" game but those last minutes were priceless. :D
