Just for fun I ran some words through Google:
"Chelsea money title" = 818,000 results
"Chelsea buy title" = 600,000 results
"Chelsea win title" = 572,000 reults
"Chelsea fight (for) title" = 232,000 results
"Chelsea earn title" = 81,100 results
"Chelsea deserve title" = 67,400 results
If you had asked any fans before this season if they wanted someone other than Arsenal or Manchester United to win the title, the answer would have been (except for Man U and Gooners), "Absolutely. Yes. Anyone."
Now that it has happened, of course, evertyone has changed their tune. UEFA has even gone so far as to create the Chelsea Rule for the Champion's League. I'm not sure at all abouty the legality of the new rule, but it is obviously aimed at Chelsea.
Look at Inter Milan and the futility of their buying spree. Inter have spent more on players than Chelsea, in a theoretically Poorer (cash wise) league and have nothing to show for it.Was Ranieri loved because he was cute and maltreated, or simply because Chelsea didn't win it all under him?
The bottomline here is simple. People are jealous beasts who feel that their own personal success is a birthright, and anyone who comes between them and success (or for that matter is merely succesful) has done so through some "unfair advantage".
Fans of English soccer rejoice! A well coached, hardworking team of disciplined footballers reign over England. Yes, they were expensively assembled, such is the cost of battle. You asked for someone other than Arsenal or man U. and Chelsea have delivered. I would ask if you would have preferred a high priced Chelsea disaster, but I think I know the answer.

During the SKy Sports showing of Chels/Fulham today the commentator said that during the 50's Sunderland were called 'The Bank of England side'.
There's something else that always annoys me about the people bleating about how much we've spent on players and it's this... I don't know if anyone remembers but before we bought Robben and Duff everyone was saying they were heading for ManU. Well, how come it's OK if ManU buy them, despite already having a load of stars, but not if we do it??? I mean, they'd already spent a fortune on guys like Rio, Veron, Nistlerooy, etc. etc., and they STILL spent a fortune on Rooney. How come they're not 'buying the title'???
I'll tell you why... CAUSE THEY HAVEN'T ********ING WON IT, THAT'S WHY!!!
Let's be honest, the days since they had anything decent coming from their youth ranks is long gone. They had a 'golden age' with old golden balls, the Neville's, Scholes, etc, but what since? Sod-all, that's what!
I'll give all credit, (much as it pains me), to the Arse because they bought unfashionable players and turned them into consistently good ones. Well, good in th EPL, anyway, if not so brilliant in Europe but, fair play, the EPL's where they play their football... but most other successful sides throughout Europe have spent an absolute bloody fortune and still not done any good. Look at Barcelona with their so-called pedigree. How many European cups have they won, just remind me again??? And how much have they spent to try and win it... AND FAILED.
It makes me mad... as you can probably tell.

Good point about Man U. not buying the title. I think I'll use that as my new signature. Thank you.

Well said. If we would have won the title last season, I would believe money buys titles.
Money does not buy titles. Even good players do not guarantee championship.
If Ranieri was still at Chelsea, most likey we wouldn't be champions now. He had all the money to spend, still his defense once conceded 4 goals to Charlton. His goal keeping drama was no better than Fergie's.
Speaking of Fergie. He is another manager with a load of money, but his team is struggling to be third for a second season in succession. Last season they blamed it on Rio. I don't know who they are blaming this season.
If money buys titles. Arsenal wouldn't play in Europe next season, but look where they stand in the league. As a matter of fact, if it wasn't for this freakish Chelsea form. They would retain their title.
How about the galacticos of Madrid. Are they winning anything?
They have Owen on the bench. Morientes was a surplus to them. Woodgate passed their medical and never played all season. Beckham is paid more than what they used to pay Makelele, but he is not doing what Makelele did for them. They have arguably the best keeper in the World, they improved their defense. All in vain.
How about everton being fourth, is it money related too?

We just bought the title? Great. How much will it cost to buy it again next year?

Depends on how much you buy Cole, Ferdinand and Gerrard for.
EDIT: Although it was roughly £90 million spent this season.

Oh, i wasn't having a dig.
I merely ment that if they want to win the title next season, how much will they have to spend to do so?
I mean, we can keep the squad we have and be confident of winning it, i don't think either of them can say the same really!

I can obviously only speak about 1 of those teams, but it is too late for a big discussion (I have code to write). However, what I will say is that you should take a look at the top 20 transfer fees for England. It makes interesting reading.

You make a great point there Clan and it is one that is obviously hard to get a figure for. Putting zero thought into it, I would say roughly £20 million for each side in order to eliminate the key problem and add some squad depth. For Man Utd, it is a keeper and a central midfielder (defensive). For Arsenal, I would assume a centre back and a striker. The summer transfer window will certainly be interesting.

Didn't think you were having a dig. I agree with you - here we are with a squad that only has one player over 30 which has just been put together. What's ManUtd going to spend to approach our class? They're older, too.

speaking of the number twenty

But for the likes of Manchester United to complain about somebody trying to buy the title, after the "world's richest club" have spent most of the last 20 years doing exactly that, is hypocrisy of the highest order.
