I am a regular reader of "France Football" (weekly) which I can buy here in London.

Does the monthly magazine "Onze Mondial" still exist?

Are there any other French football magazines?

At the start of each new season, is there a handbook/directory which profiles each team and its players?

Merci!

I read France Football religiously when I was in France, is it possible to get it in the United States?

You'd be able to get it from New York, I reckon. They had absolutly everything when I went to a bookstore there.

I'm sure you could get a subscription sent to the US. :)

As for a pre-season handbook, I'm not sure. I think there are various Football magazines in France - who run a season preview in their magazines.

I think you can still buy Onze Mondial in France. Click here (http://www.onzemondialabo.com) for a subscription.

Right, sorry blackjack.

I found a good little Subscription site, North American based. That will allow you to purchase France Football over the net;

Its a hefty subscription of 282 dollars - BUT - you get every single magazine (52). So it is worth it.

I agree that France Football is the only soccer coverage you'll need. I might even argue that there's no other soccer non-daily in any of the languages I can read (French, English, Spanish, and Italian) that comes close. Of course the emphasis is on France, and not everyone wants to read about what's happening in the depths of the 4th division...

In the US individual Tuesday issues are $6 and up, and they are usually a week late. I've seen the Tuesday issues on newsstands in NY, but they don't make it out here to Seattle. As for a subscription, I think doing it directly with France Foot might be slightly cheaper than through the website quoted above--but it requires sending them a check in euros. I don't have an issue handy, but if you find one, and call their subscription department... If you're going to read all 52 issues, it'll be cheaper than buying it on the newsstand, that's for sure.

BTW, Onze Mondial still exists. About a decade ago I was talking about French soccer with a Frenchman in NY, and I happened to mention that I missed reading Onze (I don't think it had merged with Mondial just yet). He looked at me with utter contempt and said: "Onze is great--for kids. If you really want to read about soccer, read France Football."

I felt about 2 feet tall. But he was absolutely right. I haven't picked up Onze since.

Onze is kinda like Shoot over here.

But to be honest, if your French is poor, then picking up a kids magazine is a good thing. As condescending as that sounds.

absolutely agree with the last two posts. reading onze reminds me of astrapi!

kid's literature is great for learning a language, but onze is slangy, not easy for beginners maybe. try tintin instead!
