I think he's coming. Not sure if it would be a good signing. The Lyon midfield is realitively young so he wouldnt really make it an aging midfield.

This is interesting. Lyon should really pursue him. Maybe Domenech will finally play him since he's so fond of Lyon.

that would be a good signing ... but they must have a lot of big wages to pay already.

They will get a lot of money from selling Govou and who ever else leaves. I think Pires will sign with Lyon for less money than another team would pay him because he is French and Lyon is French and he wants to play in his home country.

If he leaves Arsenal, I'd prefer he go help out L'OM!

Please, Please take him back to France, the amount of time he has scored against us YId's for the last 6 seasons is sickening. :p

Thats not gonna happen. If he comes back to France he's gonna go play with the best team there and with his buddy Sylvain Wiltord. No where in that article was Marseille even mentioned.

i'm not sure he would be the best replacement for govou. i'm not sure of his attitude. OL isn't a place for big heads, how is his? any advice from arsenal supporters?
He's no spring chicken, but OL has a lot of youth, he might provide a good balance.
another big name player would give the club more recognition, which is about all they lack now...
he'd come pretty cheap, no transfer fee...
dang, i'm starting to think this is a good idea after all!

There were rumors of a Pires-Malouda exchange but I dont see that happening and I wouldn't be for it.

i thought pires' contract was up at the end of the season. in which case there's no exchange necessary, though i'm sure JMA would buy wenger a cup of coffee...
btw, malouda is under contract until june 2007, and OL wants to extend to 2010. i don't think he's going anywhere.

A Pires update

Lyon: Pires approaches (02/05)
At 31 years, the international medium of Gunners, Robert Pires, could take a new turn at the end of the season, by leaving the club of Arsenal. French arrives at the end of the contract and Arsène Wenger seems ready to let it leave. The old resident of Metz and Marseillais would be tempted to join the Olympic Lyonese, according to confidences collected by the newspaper The Sun, and its former fellow-member Sylvain Wiltord, with whom it would like to remake team. The OL had already approached international French this winter and could conclude the business with the next intersaison. (By Nicolas Lagavardan)

Ha! That actually got a chuckle out of me.... Pires enjoyed taking a big dump on Portugal at the Euro 2000 semi-final game. I don't think he'd be welcomed back.

Barcelona and Inter Milan also appear to be interested in Pires. If push comes to shove I have confidence that he will choose Lyon over those 2 other teams. He may still stay at Arsenal, who knows.

He'll stay at Arsenal for sure. No way do i believe he'll leave. He just wants a good contract.

no more. pirès was quoted in l'équipe yesterday as saying he most wanted to stay with arsenal, even if he only got a 1 year extension, that he would possibly be interested in going to spain, but couldn't see himself returning to france.

Well now he says that but lets see what he says 2 months from now. Football players always change their minds.

Huh? Wiltord was never in the team from December onwards last year, he was always leaving Arsenal.
