The great thing is that viewer feedback can result in more variety (i.e., hurling, field hockey, Gaelic footy).

Why are they so arrogant to think people will pay $12 a month for a few CL matches and a bunch of delayed coverage. (they show the old firm derby 4 days later) What a rip off.

My thoughts exactly. I was excited by the prospect of even more football on my tv until I actually looked at their broadcast schedule. It is horrible. Two live football matches over the first week and little sign of much more in the future.

I pay $5/month now for FSC, Goltv, and a bunch of other sports networks (NBA, NFL, etc). Of the leagues I have an interest in (not a big fan of some smaller c.america leagues) those two channels are showing 8 live matches and another 8 games same day delayed just this weekend. Setanta must be nuts to charge $12/month for their schedule.

Because people can spend > $12 in one seating on one Champions League telecast in a pub. How much do you think cover charge + food + beer cost?

Nice logic  people can also spend > $12 in a movie theatre watching Kazaam, does that mean HBO should charge $12 for one channel that shows Kazaam all day? I know you are rangers00 and have to be contrary in every thread regarding champions league tv coverage, but please just take a break.

So should HBO charge $12 for one channel that shows Kazaam all day? Do you know Fox Sports International charge $25 for one channel that shows England X Northern Ireland for only 2 hours? or charge $20 for Man U x Newcastle this coming Sunday for only 2 hours?

If you want to watch Milan x PSV, how is that paying $12 different from paying for a PPV event? You mean you can't just ignore that channel the rest of the time?

If you aren't willing to pay $12 for a PPV event, that's OK. In the U.S., PPV and close-circuit for European soccer has already had a solid base of niche customers.

$12 per month when I get to see all the UEFA CL games is fine by me. $12 per month during the Summer when there are no games on is crap...

Setanta doesn't have all the UEFA CL games. It only carries 3-4 games other than what ESPN2 carries, mainly the English, Portuguese, Greek and Turkish teams...

I predict they'll be in the sports package before year-end or they will have to pull the the plug entirely

It's not all just about UEFA Champions' League.

It's also about other coverage such as one LIVE Super-12 match, hopefully LIVE coverage of Tri Nations, and coverage of Lion's tour in the summer. Now I do know they could do even better than this for $12 a month. (For example 3 LIVE Super-12 matches a week.) But the point is, it's not just about the Champions' League.

sorry but wat teams are in this Super 12 and Tri nations not familiar with those ?

Super 12 (will be Super-14 next year) has 3 teams from Australia (New South Wales Waratahs, Queensland Reds, Australian Capital Territories Brumbies), 5 teams from New Zealand (Auckland Blues, Hurricanes, Crusaders, Waikato Chiefs, Highlanders) and 4 teams from South Africa (Sharks, Nataal Cats, Capetown Stormers, Bulls).

Tri Nations is New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa. Everyone plays each other twice (one home, one away), and the one with most points is a champion. There is a sub-competition within this which is the fierce rivalry between New Zealand All Blacks and Australia Wallabies. The winner of the contests between these 2 gets rights to a semi-official trophy called the Bledisoe Cup.
