i'm looking for some good reads somewhere on the net about how to develop in the striker position (ie. how to visualize the field, how to make good runs, where to run, positioning, etc. )
anyone know of any good reads on the net?

I notice the kinds of questions you are asking for seems to mention things that you don't need the ball to do.

I suggest everthing you do it with the ball.

It would help a lot of you can create your own shot on goal. If you can do that your a dangerous player.

If you need help from team mates to create shots your not as dangerous. If you can do both and score your a champ.

To work on getting shots off other peoples passes you need servers from the flanks both of them, and from inside the midfield. How much service? A ton of service so much service that what ever type of ball you get off that service you have seen it all before many times over.

You need to be comfortable moving to your left and to your right and shooting decently with either foot. Need to be comfortable heading the ball.

Work on a quick shot get the ball shoot the ball. Do you have a move to reverse your own field? If not get a move to reverse your field and as soon as you reverse your field shoot. That is how fast you should be able to get your shot off as you change your field.

Getting a lot of shots means nothing if they are bad shots. You want shots on goal.
-----------

There is a difference between shooting and finishing.

Shooting: When the ball is shot from outside the 18 yard line.

Finishing: When the ball is played inside the 18 yard box.

The factors which establish the difference between the two are
power on the shot, and accuracy placement on the finish.

Put some thought in your placement on your finishing. See someone else shoot over distance frame the goal expect a rebound, and put placement on the rebound to finish.

Shots request more power and less accuracy, and
finishing requires accurate placement of the ball with less power on it.

On movement with out the ball attack open space where ever it is even if it is not in front of goal.

If your teams do diagonal runs and they should for example they move left to right, and your on the right side as you see them move. Then go underneath them to the side they left the left side. That may isolate you under less defensive pressure then if you get the ball you get a shot.

super information r. luca...
see my problem ive been told is having that 'vision' out on the field...being in the right places etc without the ball...you were saying that if you can play when you have the ball then it makes you dangerous...see that isn't the problem because when i do get the ball i am a threat to score...my problem would be gettin that ball more consistantly often...its not that my mates dont want to pass it to me...its they cant get it to me because of my positioning....thats why i was asking for some reads on like positioning where it can be outlined in like pictures etc. (think a coaches clipboard when he uses it to draw on)...i want to see where i should be at various situations when the ball is in a certain area of the field...
i hope u understand what im saying...
playing when i get the ball isn't a problem...i can score...its getting into a position to get that ball...

You have to be able to see the ball with no defender in the way to get a pass and a chance to score when you get in range.

Remember I posted if your on the right side and the players your team mates are moving to your side best place for you is the the left side.

Watch when your on one side and the dribbler is on the other look for space to play in front of that dribbler. That is where you want to move to that space. As you get there calkl for the ball and do something good with the ball if you get it.

Have the ball and out of range make a pass don't admire your pass move in the flow of play, and hope for a return pass by the guy you passed to or someone else get the ball in range shoot.

Don't drift far from the dribbler if you don't have to. The father away you are from the dribbler the less likely you are to get a pass.

You know what a second attacker is? The attacker closest to the dribbler and in a position of less defensive pressure. If your in that position a lot of the time you should get a ton of touches, and you can attack from that position with the ball.

I hope some of this helps you. Open your eyes before you touch the ball and see space to play then first touch the ball into that space and your off and running.

-------------------

When your up front in a dangerous scoring position don't leave right away if a team mate loses the ball stay there until the first or the second pass by the opponent. Only move a little to be onside if you have to. If there opponent loses the ball it has a way of finding you if you don't put yourself out of position and score.

If your opponent wins the ball from you, move inside the field to his support player right away as you go to the player that took the ball off you. Anticipate a back pass to that player it could be a keeper. Then if you can get to it first you have a chance to score. Get goals like that if you have good anticpation of what the opponent will most likely do with a ball he won.

So play smart and score.
