If the World Cup format went back to the pre-1982 era with only 16 teams, which ones do you think would be better representative of a WC? Remember to not pick the 16 best teams of the world, but the fairest distribution of spots between the confederations.

Mine would be like this:

Conmebol - 3 spots:

Brazil
Argentina
Uruguay

Asia and Oceania - 1 spot:

Iran

Africa - 2 spots:

Cameroon
Egypt

Concacaf - 1 spot:

Mexico

UEFA - 9 spots:

England
Germany
France
Italy
Netherlands
Portugal
Spain
Ukraine
Greece

Well right now here is how the top 16 breaks down:

Europe - 11
CONMEBOL - 3
CONCACAF - 2

So I guess I'd have it like this:

Europe - 9.5
CONMEBOL - 2.5
CONCACAF - 1.5
Africa - 1.5
Asia & Oceania - 1

why on earth is every picking iran?!? and mexico, but not the US?!?teams that have made it to the semi-finals of a WC (USA, Korea Rep.) DO NOT DESERVE to be on this list.

we must include teams that have never won a match (Greece, Ukraine) ... :p:D

I wonder why everyone is picking Holland who even couldn't beat Armenia that was beaten 3-1 by Kuwait.
If you don't watch any Mexican or Iranian football then don't post anything.

Wake up dude. Its the year 2005 now. South Korea did a lot good things in the last WC but who says they are still playing good now. And right now Ukraine is playing VERY GOOD so they deserve to be in the lists. They even beat Turkey who become third in the last WC. And Greece don't you remember EC 2004? They are right now the European Champions so they deserve to be on my list.

If you don't watch any Mexican or Iranian football then don't post anything. If you don't know your facts then don't post anything.:D

Damn I forgot to correct my post and I wasn't talking about Macedonia but about Armenia what I wanted to post was "couldn't beat by more than 2 goals" :o

Anyway Holland has been a very good team but since a year ago they are playing "ugly football" instead of "nice football" like what they used to do before.

Maybe its because of van Basten who doesn't realize that Seedorf is one of the best Dutch players right now.

Asia-2
Africa-2
N. America-2
S. America-3
Europe-6
Host-1

You could have groups something like this:

Group A-Germany, Portugal, United States, Japan
Group B-Brazil, Netherlands, Mexico, Nigeria
Group C-Italy, France, Argentina, South Korea
Group D-Spain, England, Paraguay, Senegal

Iran is arguably the best Asian team at the moment.

what is the current format at?

its kinda unfair to group oceania and asia together...and only 1 team makes it...

japan and korea both deserve spots

Interesting that everyone is picking Cameroon as the African nation for their field of 16, yet it looks like Cameroon will not even be playing in the field of 32 next summer in Germany.

Not trying to flame but Mexico is nothing special outside of the Aztec. They are medicore at best . The past 4 WC have landed them on decent Groups and have ended up WAY overachieving just to end up losing over and over in the 2nd rd. Unless the WC will be held in Mexico, the USA CAN and should easily beat them in a neutral field just like the last WC. Which means they are currently the team to beat of the Concacaf. I would still put them in anyway but it would be like adding another team from S.A or EU .

Maybe its because of van Basten who doesn't realize that Seedorf is one of the best Dutch players right now.

and one of the most arrogant...he wants players that are willing to work for the team not know-hows who think they belong in the NT...
