Hey,
As you all know, Owen won't be available for the Wales match, so just out of curiosity, who would a) you start and b) should start?
I'd like to see Andy Johnson start, but, I'm more interested in giving Jermain Defoe full 90 mins, I really feel he has potential, and imho at this moment in time is better than Owen.
But anyhow, what do you think?

The game is a longtime away but as i'm going to be baised i'm going to go with Defoe. This guy for me is pure class and sharp as a knife finisher, He don't need time or space,if you give him only half a yard in the box he's shoot and probably score! he's a top goalscorer this season :)

Definitely Defoe. He's easily the best backup we have for Owen; Andy Johnson shouldn't even be in consideration for the squad in my opinion.

In some ways I agree although we need a new penalty taker ;)
Seriously though I think a players goal scoring record should be looked at minus any penalties scored. This season AJ has 9 goals from open play.... one more than Heskey and less that Peter Crouch.

DeFoe is probably the best option we have right now, I guess Sven will see what happens in the US and Colombia games.

How is Wright Philips performance for the NT? Against Holland he seemed a bit out of place surrounded by all those experienced players...is he catching up?

Defoe. There's no one else really.

Shaun Wright-Phillips hasn't had that many chances for the National side yet, against Holland he was extremely disappointing but i think that he maybe felt the pressure of expectation on him because there were lots of calls for him to start that match and he was maybe trying too hard to impress. I think he will still force his way in to the side although that has become a bit more awkward because of Joe Cole but i think that he would be a better player on the wing because that is where he plays every week and he is a fantastic player who scores lots of goals, it is good to see him back for city after injury.

I think same as before, but get rid of Becks (who will feign an injury to be left out) and put in SWP.
I think the LB is spot is troublesome for Wales and they have no-one decent in that position. Allow Shaun to create mayhem on the right hand-side and we will win it easily.
Obviously, Defoe must come in for Owen - who is suspended.

why get rid of becks...he is the captain, the heart of this team.
Getting rid of him would demoralise the team. I say no...and did you see his performances against aserbaijian and barcelona...he still has it in him...and he was playing against some top talent in barc.

Yes I saw his performances against Azerbaijan and Barca - doens't mean he can do the job needed for taking care of Wales does it?
If he is unwilling to torment the left-back, a huge weak-spot for Wales, there is no point. He doesn't drive forward and put huge amounts of pressure on full-backs.
Either that or stick him in the centre, thus removing Lampard or Gerrard. Not a wise move, imo.
SGE won't drop him, so he will start unless injured. I'm hoping he is, so that SWP can torture Wales.

Here, here. Sol is a good player but has been out alot recently with injury, he is getting up there in years, I would also prefer Terry to partner Ferdinand. I was trying to think of a better RB than Gary Neville, any suggestions?

Terry is a great talent and has played well. But give me the proven best for W.C. games. Campbell at 80% is still better than Terry. Also, Ledley King could provide some stiff challenge to the backup spot with Terry.

Sol has been a great servant to England, but he is exactly that a has been! Rio isn't so hot these days either (too much white-lining), so JT is a must before either of them, although I would much prefer JT and Ledley playing together, I know it won't happen, barring injuries, but I'll keep my fingers crossed!
Take note of the difference here, JT and Ledley play every week, week in week out, they want to play and be involved, ask yourself where Sol has been for the past several England games, friendly or competitive, nowhere, that's where?
And Poshboy has been MOM in Real's last 2 matches, if he's back to his best we're dangerous!
Up front Sven wil undoubtedly play Defoe, although he's struggling to find a start at Spuds and is way off the pace at the moment. SWP is a crock, Alan Smith is a non-starter at Manure, I know it don't make sense, but Crouch is areal contender, he knows where the net is at least and he has to be a better option than Bruno?
