Out of interest, who's everyone's early money on? I'm almost entirely certain, given their experience and the calibre of their matches they've been given by UEFA, and their actual performances, that the two finals will be two from Poll, Michel and MMG. Obviously Poll can't get the UCL final, but's in with a very good shout for the UC final.

I'm going to go with Poll for the UC and Merk for the CL.

I don't think that Merk handled the Milan derby that well enough, (other than getting the players off), to get a shot, particularly with the "Schvei head butt" incident.
I would go for Kim Milton Neilsen as an outside bet.
With AC Milan more than likely to get to the Final that would rule out Collina in his final season, so perhaps he will get the Liverpool v. Chelsea (first leg) as his farewell. Perhaps a switch to the Final if an upset by PSV winning to say "Goodbye" to him.

Good point about Merk. I was taking a shot in the dark, pretty much.

I would've gone with Neilsen except that he got the CL final last year.

KMN had the UCL final last year, Merk had it the year before, and PLC's also had it, which effectively rules them out.

It's Collina's last year on the FIFA list...I would not be shocked if he got his second (unprecedented?) final.

If not--and depending on which teams lhgo through--I say Ivanov and Sars have a good chance for finals matches.

By the way, what happened to Vassaras? Is he injured? Hasn't worked in awhile from what I've seen.

I think the russian who did the liverpool second leg match or the spanish guy who did a quarter final,, the same one who did that centenary fifa match. I can't remember how to spell their names but I am sure you would know them. I think it will be one of these two and I can not split them.

They'll be Valentin Ivanov and Manuel Enrique Mejuto Gonzalez. ;)

yeah, that would be them. If there was sports betting on who would get the UCL I would have my money on these two for sure.

Vassaras and Sars for the first leg semis in Milan and London, respectively.

I'll guess that Poll and Collina get the second legs and I'll stick with Ivanov for the UCL final, with Gonzalez my pick for the UEFA Cup.

Hauge for the PSV/Milan match, Michel for the Liverpool/Chelsea game.

And with CSKA through to the UC final, that rules Ivanov out of contention for the UC final. A portugese ref can't ref the UC final either (both because Sporting are in it, and it's held in Portugal), not that anyone will be shedding any tears about that.

It looks like, especially with the non-use of Poll and MMG in the semis, that they have got them. That's almost a certainty now.

Also interesting to note that the feud between Poll and Phil Sharp has ended, and they've started working together again, so he'll probably be on the line.

Well, Graham Poll has been given charge of the UEFA Cup Final, assisted by 2 other English A/R's, (names espcape me at present), but Phil Sharp is not one of them. Maybe Poll had some influence over that?

Also interesting to note that the feud between Poll and Phil Sharp has endedI forgot to ask when this was first posted: what was the feud regarding?

It's only a very strong rumour, seemingly borne out by the fact that they haven't worked together for several months. Very strange you'd think, given they're our number 1 ref and AR, and should be certainties for Germany.

But I dunno if you know this, but Graham is Phil's brother-in-law, and let's just say (if it's true) it's a personal life thing. ;)
