I was taken slightly aback to see the Toon up on top, to be quite honest.

Can someone explain to me how these rankings work because I don't understand how AZ Alkmaar, PSV Eindhoven, and CSKA Moscow can be ahead of us in the standings and how Austria Wien can be right behind us in 11th? Seems bogus to me.

Because they won games.
One of the major drawbacks of the current coefficients system, is that a win over 'nohopers United', gives the same points as a win over Milan.

I believe UEFA didnīt change this to help the teams from the smaller nations (us for instance) and frankly i agree with them, or the smaller nations would have a lot more problems in getting seeded teams.

Absolutely, and spot on as well.
Like i said though, when you go on a tear in the UEFA Cup against these smaller teams, you bag a shed load of points.
Although, the champions league 'bonus' points do somewhat make up for it, winning against the smaller teams is far more rewarding.
I wasn't having a whinge actually, just pointing something out.

Unfortunatly because we didn't have to qualify for the Champions League, we don't get those win points and therefore although we are constantly getting out of the group stages and into the last 16 we are now 19th and therefore won't be a top seed for next season. Not good as that means that we could get a tasty team like Madrid or Milan..........

What's the difference? Not like you have a hope of winning the thing anyway.
;) ;)

Actually, you're ranked 10th. It goes by last 5 years, you're just looking at ONLY the 2005 results.

Wasn't really aware of that, but it doesn't change things we are still not in the top seeds!!

Yes, but not all of the top 10 might make it. In fact, I'd bet teams like Valencia and Depor might put you back up there.

EDIT: I'm right, too. Valencia's in the top 10 and won't make it into the CL, Depor at #9 won't either. You'll still be a top seed, unless we or PSV wins the CL automatically joining the first pot.
What's funny is that we're 20th, so we're going to be someone's second seed. I don't envy that team. :p
