I believe that the 31:0 jared9999 mentioned was in the 2002 WCQ. This time around it is:
29- 2-04 Bermuda 13-0 Montserrat
3-12-03 Maldives 12-0 Mongolia

unless I missed one.

In yesterday's Oceania's U17 WC Finals qualification, AUS' B team beat Tahiti 26-0. :(

What's wrong with them? If they can't put up 31 goals, it's pretty clear that the Australian team's future is in trouble!;)

Yes, they beat American Samoa 31:0 on April 11 2001; they also beat Tonga 22:0 two days earlier. The AUS team wasn't the full "A team" AND these games were Oceania WCQ's for WC 2002 !!!

Just shows the vast gulf (which still exists) in footballing quality between the top team of Oceania (AUS) and the rest of the Oceania confederation's teams.

why do the teams keep going? i mean isn't like 6 or 7 enough? is it necessary to make the opposition a laughingstock?

As to your second question, my answer is an emphatic YES.

One should play every game as hard as possible, despite the quality of the opposition.

Weren't there also concerns about the qualifying format, that goal differential might be a factor if AUS and NZ happened to tie - so AUS was building up a big cushion for itself?

I used these two games as a "trap" on another board. I posted about what should be done to a team who, in a relatively high level tournament, outscored opponents 53-0 in two games. I got several replies about banning them from further competition, dismissing the coach, etc.

No to the first question.

AUS has been trying to "ban itself" from Oceania for years. It's only just succeeded in doing do so and is moving onto the Asian Football Confederation which should see it in a very much tougher competition. :)

Other double digit victories:

5/15/04 - Fiji 11 - 0 American Samoa
5/17/04 - Papua New Guinea 10 - 0 American Samoa
6/4/04 - New Zealand 10 - 0 Tahiti
6/19/04 - Mexico 10 - 0 Dominica

The biggest win in 2005 has probably been Poland 8 - 0 Azerbaijan
