I saw a little blurb about Ryan Nelsen on the BBC gossip page today.

I don't know how reputable of a source this is, but it's the first I've heard of him playing somewhere other than Blackburn next year. Blackburn would be crazy to let him slip out of their fingers.

Everton would be a step up, Birmingham would be a lateral move at best

i find that a bit surprising considering Mark Hughes has just recently stated publicly that he aims to sign Nelson to a new contract this summer.

I find it hard to believe that Hughes would sell his best signing when he is looking to pick up the team for next season. Of course, the supposed contract extension could be a way of upping Nellie's price to another team. But this summer really is the time to sign him as a reward for his excellent play.

Yeah, just imagine DC United to the Champions League in two seasons. I don't see how Hughes will let him go, though. Plus, I see Nelsen as a loyal guy. If Blackburn offer him a good contract he'll stay.

What's so hard to imagine?

Well you go from playing the Metros to Real Madrid. That's going from the outhouse to the penthouse if I ever saw it.

I guess he can still get into the UEFA cup via an FA Cup win, though. Let's hope he and Friedel do it.

If Blackburn gets offered silly money for Nelsen I think the team would take it, but I don't think Nellie would ask for a transfer out of Blackburn, at least not at this summer.

It all boils down to MONEY - With a good A-Mid and another good forward for the 2005-06 season, Blackburn could make a serious run at UEFA Cup play in 2006 - But they would need lots of money

If offers for Nelsen are modest, then he stays - But if the big clubs like what they've seen (and they gotta love him), then one or more could offer big bucks for him - And he goes

BTW - This is formula for MLS transfers to Europe - Go to a modest club (and for a modest price) where the management AND coach want you and give you starts right away - If you play OK, then you're a regular but nobody's complaining about an excessive salary - If you play great like Nelsen, then they're estatic and offer you and substantial raise quickly - And you're eventually in line for offers from the really big clubs - Come in modestly and exercise patience - If you're really that good, it'll be shown
